Guest post by Mark Adams, director of Verizon's small business marketing team.
As a small business owner you and your employee(s) may be very busy, but no matter how busy you are, it’s still important to recognize your employees’ work – even if that work is outside of the work they do for you.
We are so proud of Tracey Kennedy, a member on the Verizon Small Business team. An award was established in her honor!
There’s an award called the Tracey A. Kennedy Leadership in Advocacy Award. It was established in 2010, and named for one of the American Heart Association’s most passionate advocates and we are proud she is our employee and on my team. It is awarded to outstanding individuals in recognition of their “lifetime achievement”, including outstanding leadership and tireless efforts in helping to promote the mission of the American Heart Association.
Tracey is a stroke survivor. Today Tracey Kennedy is doing great - alive and well, and living in Rhode Island! And, because of her life experiences, Tracey’s commitment to advancing the American Heart Association’s mission through meaningful policy change at the state and federal levels is unparalleled. It’s the driving force behind her success—and her volunteerism. She’s volunteered countless hours, worked as a past Chairwoman of the Rhode Island Board of Directors for the American Heart Association, and as an Advocacy Ambassador.
Tracey’s past medical problems haven’t slowed her down either—in fact, they’ve made her even more passionate, and more committed to the goal of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the American Heart Association honored Representative Joseph M. McNamara, Rhode Island, for his commitment to fighting heart disease and stroke in Rhode Island. He became the most recent recipient of the Tracey A. Kennedy Leadership in Advocacy Award.
As Tracey was on-hand to present the award to this year’s recipient and introduce Representative McNamara to the audience, she commented, “Regardless of how busy Joe is, every time we bring him a new idea he is willing to jump in and help start the dialogue.”
Everyone should be so lucky to have someone like Tracey in their corner.
We certainly are! We couldn’t be more proud of the fact that the American Heart Association has recognized Tracey’s dedication to such an important cause. At Verizon, we reap the benefits of Tracey’s commitment and passion everyday!
