There’s a lot of buzz these days about LTE (Long Term Evolution) or Fourth Generation (4G) wireless broadband, and for any small business the questions are – What exactly is LTE and what’s in it for me?
Businesses invest in technologies that help them improve their bottom line – and LTE fits that model to a T. LTE is the next generation of high performance mobile communication technology and moves data 10x faster than existing 3G wireless broadband in a cost-effective and energy-efficient way.
While many of the consumer applications touted for LTE such as faster video and music file downloads or more multi-tasking capability on social networking or gaming sites may have some appeal to all of us, a small business approaches this differently.
For example, if you’re on the road and need to be in touch with colleagues across town or coast-to-coast, you may need to use tools like the Verizon Collaboration Center or Skype to hold scheduled and impromptu meetings. LTE will make this process simpler, faster and cleaner because more data can be transmitted at higher speeds. You can find out more about LTE applications at our LTE Innovation Center.
The LTE network is currently being tested by Verizon in Boston and Seattle and will be available in 25-30 U.S. markets later this year with a continued rollout to more communities next year and beyond. Look for LTE to lighten your load and transport your data as fast as you can say, “Beam me up, Scottie!"
