5-30 Chase Contest MSB_fb_coverimage.jpgThis post is from the Verizon Small Business team.

In the spirit of supporting all small business owners, the Verizon Small Business team wants to alert you to an outstanding opportunity from our partners at Chase

Have you heard about “Mission Small Business”?

It’s a joint promotion between Chase and LivingSocial to help up to 12 worthy small business owners during these tough economic times.  It demonstrates their commitment to small businesses, and was developed to provide small businesses with resources needed to make a positive impact on their business. The program will award grants of up to $3 million to small business owners nationwide.

How would you grow or improve your business if you had an extra $250,000 to work with?

Mission: Small Business℠ invites small business owners who have been in business for at least two years and have less than 100 employees to apply for a grant for their business. As part of their submission, small business owners will need to explain why their business is unique, outline a proposed plan for utilizing the grant to grow their business and describe how the business is involved with its community.

The Verizon Small Business team thinks that another really cool part of this program is that consumers are actually encouraged to support your business once you’ve registered.  They can get involved by clicking the "Support" button at missionsmallbusiness.comand voting for your business.  Each time someone clicks to support a small business, Chase will add five dollars to the grant pool, up to a maximum of $3 million. Each registered small business must receive at least 250 votes to be considered for a Grant. The voting period is open from May 7, 2012 through June 30, 2012.

At the end of the voting period, small business applicants that have received 250 votes will have their applications evaluated and grant recipients will be chosen. Grant recipients will be announced on or before September 15, 2012.

So, we’ll ask you one more time, what would your small business do with an additional $250,000 in your bank account?  That’s what a little bit of effort on your end could net your small business.  But, you need to get started today, because you also have to start asking your customers, employees, family and friends to start voting for your business!

Complete program details and terms and conditions can be found at http://www.missionsmallbusiness.com/.

If you enter, add a post to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/VerizonSmallBiz and remember to ask our Verizon Small Business team and all of our followers to vote for your business.

Then, be sure to come back and let us know when you won—and how you’re planning to use your grant to grow your business.

We salute our partners at Chase for coming up with a timely opportunity for small business owners across America!

Good luck everyone!

If you know of other contests for small business owners, please share it with us.

A suggestion for small business: be more responsive to customers than Verizon.  You need to have people who your customers can talk to and not just the "trained monkeys" that Verizon provides. Verizons can get away with this because they are a monopoly but for business that have to compete, you need to actually care about your customers to succeed.  If customers have a choice, they will avoid companies who treat their customers with the disrespect that Verizon showers on its customers..
