Veteran’s Day celebrates and remembers those who've served their country. Did you know that nearly a quarter of them want to or plan to start their own business and use their military experience to get startups underway? Of additional note, is the work being done by Syracuse University and the SBA to help disabled vets with their entrepreneurial ideas.
The National Federation of Independent Businesses notes that its Index of Small Business Optimism has improved by 2.7 points in October but still remains in recession territory. And the Thomson/Reuters Paynet Index confirmed that small business loans have jumped in the past month.
In the meantime, if you are starting (or already have) a small home-based business, don’t forget the the tax deductions you’re allowed – including the cost of telephone calls. They may not seem like much and the do require keeping good records, but when you’re starting out, basic tax deductions free up your cash flow to invest in your business.
