And the Winner Is …

winnerbig.JPGThis spring, Verizon ran a contest to honor the many “mompreneurs” across the country. We asked small business owners who are mothers to shoot a video or write an essay about a day in their lives. Verizon's Hardest Working Small Biz Mom contest was open to both Verizon and Verizon wireless customers, and we received wonderful entries from across the country.

Many of the women who entered the contest have a home-business or started their business in their home.  The stories they shared were very inspiring – how each was able to care for her kids, family, their business and more.

We’ve selected the winners, and we’d like to tell you about them.

In her first-prize-winning video submission, Nichole Bentley, owner of Bentley Business Consulting, in Coppell, TX, shows how she strikes a balance between caring for her four sons, and running her business, which creates and finds solutions for small businesses and entrepreneurs.  She also finds time to fit some workouts into her regular routine.

Bentley will receive a first-place prize of $5,000 and home-cleaning service for an entire year (valued at $2,400).

She uses Verizon’s super-fast FiOS Internet and crystal clear phone services to run her home-based business, which has clients in Dallas, Pittsburgh and Denver. Bentley said she’ll set aside some of her winnings for her business.  But she plans to use the rest to host a dinner to thank both her assistants for telling her about the contest; her husband, for giving her the idea for the video; and to celebrate her victory, and for soon turning 40.

The second-prize goes to Lisa Pelino, owner of Sweet Dawn Café in Rochester, NY (click here to read her submission); and Jennifer Manriquez, owner of Bilingual Fun in South Lyon, MI, is the third-prize winner (click here to watch Manriquez’s video submission in which she shares how she relies on her Verizon Wireless Blackberry smartphone daily).

As you can see, technology is a big part of how these moms are able to connect and stay in touch with their clients and customers.  You can read more about them here.

And, if you’re a dad who runs a small business, we didn’t forget about you.  We also ran Verizon’s “Hardest Working Small Biz Dad” contest, and we’ll be announcing the results soon.
