Discovery Health to Become OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on Jan. 1

by on ‎12-27-2010 11:25 AM

Each New Year brings changes in programming.  That’s why we want to make sure that fans of Discovery Health (Channel 161 on FiOS TV) know that the channel will become OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on Jan. 1, 2011.

OWN is a brand new network with a mix of original programs, specials, original documentaries and acquired movies. There are also plans underway for weekly series on the network. You can read about some of the programs here.

What about your favorite Discovery Health shows?

Discovery will continue to air popular Discovery Health shows on other networks including TLC, Science Channel and Planet Green. Additionally, some of your favorite  Discovery Health shows such as “Mystery Diagnosis” and “Deliver Me” will be featured on OWN.

We’re excited to be able to provide OWN to our FiOS TV customers when it debuts.  You’ll find OWN on FiOS TV channel 161, just like Discovery Health, as well as 1625 for La Conexion subscribers.

To Verizon, Fit TV and Oprah:  I have always been a big fan of Oprah's and admire her acomplishments as a woman.  As we Americans can see in politics as well as our class structure the powerful guys always crush the middle. Regarding the new changes made to channels without regard to viewers, I hold the following responsible: for Verizon we were just expected to accept the fact that exercise on Fit tv was now limited to 4 or 5 shows in the very early morning with no other options, to Fit TV who never informed us of the changes about to be made I can't help but think that neither carrier nor channel weren't paid a fine sum in some way in order to make this happen.  And finally to Oprah, because you took over the Discovery channel and put what was playing there on Fit TV. Didn't you realize that there are many people who want to stay fit and depend on these channels in these hard times to get exercise or are you Oprah now to powerful?  Debbie (the middle)

Bring back Discovery Health.  There is enough band width for both programs.

Not much spare bandwidth. Plus Discovery Heath actually became OWN and is no longer in existence. I have found that some of of the content has moved to TLC, FitTV.
