Life Simplified: ‘Smart Homes’ Featured in Sept. 28 ‘Meet the Expert’ Session

by on ‎09-20-2011 05:46 PM

American families are using more and more broadband-enabled devices, including game consoles, IP-based TVs, smartphones, PCs, notebooks and tablets to make life’s daily juggle easier.

In fact, families not only have more devices in their homes, they’re also using them simultaneously, creating greater demands on the home’s broadband network.  Broadband, and specifically Fiber to the Home broadband like that of Verizon’s FiOS, is shifting how families connect and consume entertainment and information.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, you’re invited to join our next Meet the Expert’ real-time chat with Ann Shaub, one of our passionate directors of product management.

Earlier this summer, Ann hosted a video vignette about how consumers can take advantage of home monitoring control tools to simplify their busy home life, save money, plus manage and manipulate a variety of home functions involving lights, locks and thermostats.

During two ‘Meet the Expert’ sessions, from 11 a.m. to noon ET and from 8 to 9 p.m. ET, you can chat real time with Ann about ‘smart homes’ and what Verizon has in store for you and other consumers.

Ann has spent a considerable amount of time developing technologies that move beyond entertainment and information-sharing to something even dearer to the hearts of busy parents like her: peace of mind.

Using innovative technology that leverages countless devices, families will have greater control over how they manage their home, and their life, while being more environmentally friendly.  Soon, with a simple click of a button, Verizon FiOS consumers in multiple states will be able to use a service called Home Monitoring and Control to lock and unlock doors remotely, monitor their home via networked security cameras while they’re away, and set, adjust and control lights, smart thermostats and appliances – all from a smartphone, computer or FiOS TV operating system.

As a working mother with four kids and an active household, Ann embraces the fruits of her labor.  And, with high-speed Internet and fiber optic-based networks more readily available, families can put their homes to work for them, signaling a shift in who’s the boss (man/woman vs. home).  The connected home, or the smart home as Ann likes to call it, brings a new level of convenience, security and efficiency to families.

We look forward to your comments and questions on Sept. 28.  Also, please spread the word to your friends and colleagues who may not yet have registered in the Verizon Community Forums, so they can spend time with Ann.
