Surviving the Dog Days of Summer

1348iE1E0A5B673C74D4AAugust. The big summer theatrical releases are out, you’ve grown tired of your summer reading list, vacations have come and gone, and the heat is even more unbearable.

Fortunately, you live in the 21st century and have access to some of the greatest inventions of all time, such as air conditioning, HDTVs, laptops and, of course, Verizon FiOS -- all of which set the stage for your escape from the dog days of summer. In fact, if you consider everything included with your FiOS package, there’s enough to keep you entertained for quite some time:

Video on Demand – What better time than now to catch up on movies you missed in the theater?  FiOS TV Video on Demand currently has award-winning films from late last year plus movies from spring, with early summer releases trickling in soon. And Verizon’s collection of on-demand titles isn’t limited to movies. You can find a lot of your favorite shows on demand, plus series and films from premium channels like HBO and Showtime, if you subscribe.

Online video programming from EPIX, HBO GO and moreEPIX came first, and HBO GO

followed shortly thereafter. Both feature tons of online content that you can enjoy from any computer or laptop in any location with a broadband connection, as long as you have your Verizon login credentials handy. Customers must subscribe to EPIX or HBO and have FiOS TV and FiOS Internet to access the online content.

TBS and TNT recently joined FiOS TV Online, offering unlimited online access to popular programs.  And since 2005, Verizon broadband subscribers have had access to online services like StarzPlay, ESPN3, Disney Connection and YES Network. With all that great stuff online, you could multi-task your couch fest with a laptop in one hand and TV remote in the other.

Widgets offer front door to Internet video – Tired of watching YouTube videos on the small screen? FiOS TV subscribers can use their large flat screen TVs to search for and enjoy online videos from YouTube, and Dailymotion.  Plus, FiOS TV offers subscribers the ability to interact with friends and followers on social media sites Facebook and Twitter right on their TV screen.

In short, there are plenty of options today and more on the way. We’d love to know what some of your favorite “beat the heat” options are with FiOS TV. Let us know in the comments section.
