Verizon Alerts Customers to Phishing Scams

by on ‎04-12-2010 10:26 AM

1008i81108F18B6AB5437Verizon Online customers are being targeted by several new phishing scams that attempt to learn user names and passwords for their email accounts.

A phishing scam involves sending spam or pop-up messages to lure credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, passwords, or other sensitive information from Internet users.  Emails and pop-ups asking you for information may look authentic and direct you to Web sites that appear to be real company sites.

We’ve posted a warning about the latest scams, explaining to our customers that Verizon would never ask them for their usernames and passwords for their email accounts.

These scams attempt to lure customers to a fraudulent Web site to input personal information and/or download virus-infected programs.  If you’re a Verizon Online user and you’ve gotten such an email or emails, you should not respond to them or click on any of the links.  Please immediately delete the email.

Our online warning includes examples of the phishing emails that have been received by some Verizon Online customers.  Just remember not to go to the Web sites displayed in the fake emails.
