What a Difference 1,825 Days Makes: Progressing Into the Future

In tech terms, five years is arguably a lifetime.

Consider this: In October 2006, Verizon had 147,000 FiOS Internet customers and 118,000 FiOS TV customers and FiOS TV was only one year removed from being introduced.

Fast forward to today.  Our subscriber counts for FiOS Internet and FiOS TV have swelled to 4.6 million and 4 million, respectively.  As impressive as that growth represents, it is the “things” that Verizon and FiOS enables that makes us even more excited.

This week, my colleague Stefanie Scott continues her Verizon Think Forward series

on the future of work by asking people to consider how much their work style has changed in the past five years.

As you take a moment to check out her blog and video, you’ll read and hear that working “in the office” has become as common these days as booking a flight on the Internet or taking care of your service needs at Verizon.

But it’s not just work style that has radically changed in the past five years. Reflect for a moment on your personal lifestyle and the way that Verizon has enabled you to stay connected to a wide variety of tasks, with no limits involved, and that speaks of progress.

We’ve gone from conceptualizing our all fiber-optic network in the early 90s to today where you can manage your relationship with Verizon and our services from anywhere you can connect to the Internet with the newly unveiled MY FiOS app.

Using an Android mobile device, the app lets you connect to and set features with our new Home Monitoring and Control service; schedule and order personal content by using FiOS Media Manager and Flex View, allowing for viewing flexibility over a TV, lap top or smartphone; schedule a DVR recording of your favorite show; show friends and family photographs or videos utilizing Media Manager; and much more. And soon, the MY FiOS app will become available to Apple mobile devices too.

What’s great about this progress is that it represents just the beginning of the innovations we’ll be introducing to deliver you and other customers a borderless lifestyle.  Granted, we’re not ready to expand to Richard Branson's horizons -- yet -- but I believe you’ll agree we’re getting darn close.

I’d enjoy hearing how things have changed for you over the past five years, at home and at work so email us at; comment here on this blog; or weigh in on other Verizon social media properties such as @verizonbusiness on Twitter and use the hashtag #VZFOW, or on the Verizon Business pages on Facebook.
