baseball bat.JPGTake me out to the ball game? Well, no need to go any further than the living room to enjoy baseball with FiOS TV. And bring the peanuts.

With the regular season just around the corner, Verizon is providing customers with several ways to follow the nation’s pastime, starting with our latest interactive sports offering – the baseball widget.

Available this week, the free widget will supply fans with instant access to headline news, scores, league standings and player updates. Plus, our MLB Extra Innings subscribers can customize on-screen game alerts for up to 10 teams. Once set, the alerts pop up at the bottom of the TV screen while you’re watching any channel on FiOS. Just press the “OK” button on the FiOS remote control to jump to the live game action. Read more...

Verizon Asks the FCC to Rule on Program Access Complaint

by ‎03-30-2010 10:37 AM - edited ‎03-30-2010 10:37 AM

swoosh.JPGOur New York and New Jersey customers want to know when they’ll see MSG HD on FiOS TV, and they’re asking if a recent court decision will speed the process.

First, a little history.

MSG Network, owned by Cablevision, carries the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres. As readers of this blog know, Cablevision has refused to sell to us the high definition versions of MSG’s regional sports programming. They claim that they don't have to, arguing that this programming is not subject to program access rules because it is delivered over fiber instead of by satellite. Read more...

Fight Back Against Online Threats

by Employee on ‎03-25-2010 03:44 PM

locks.JPGAccording to a recent FBI report, online crime complaints jumped 22.8 percent last year. It’s a valuable reminder that, even after more than a decade of email and Web browsing, Americans can still fall prey to online scams. We thought it would be a good time to discuss some basic online safety tips.

Be wary of e-mails or other requests (i.e. Facebook messages and Tweets) asking for personal information, log-ins, passwords, or containing suspicious-looking attachments or URLs. And if you get an unsolicited e-mail with an offer that seems too good to be true, it is! While most spam ranges from harmless to irritating, some of it is purely malicious. Fortunately, Internet providers such as Verizon are doing their part to fight against spam. Read more...

Coming Attractions: 3D

by Employee on ‎03-23-2010 03:09 PM

3d.JPGThere’s no question that 3D TV will be the next flashy development in home entertainment. The surge in equipment suppliers displaying 3D TVs at this January’s Consumer Electronics Show foretold that 2010 would be the year 3D emerged.

And, of course, there’s the theatrical success of “Avatar” on the big screen, giving millions of people their first taste of 3D not generated by red and blue lenses in cardboard frames. Read more...

mocha.JPGAt Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, if you ask for mocha, you get a chocolate/coffee mix. In technology, you ask for MoCA and you get an in-home, high-capacity, HD video distribution network.

MoCA stands for Multimedia over Coax Alliance. More than 50 network and equipment vendors worldwide are in this alliance, and they promote use of coaxial cable that’s already installed in more than 95 percent of American homes for the delivery of video and broadband services over dynamic home networks.

That includes Verizon.

fios.JPGVerizon customers in the Northeast who call us with a FiOS billing question are getting a return message that very day from a senior executive to make sure everything goes right. And just for extra measure, Verizon Vice President of Sales Bob Driscoll provides his personal Verizon e-mail address.

Driscoll’s initiative is just one example of the extra steps Verizon is taking to ensure our customers’ satisfaction. Other examples include new self-service tools that enable customers to do business with us when it’s convenient for them; a streamlined call tree system that gets customers to the right person quickly; and the ability for FiOS TV customers to remotely program their DVRs from a cell phone or computer. FiOS – Where We Stand

by ‎03-16-2010 12:17 PM - edited ‎04-01-2010 05:01 PM

fiber.JPGYou may have seen some recent discussion about Verizon’s deployment of our all fiber-optic network, and I wanted to set the record straight for our At Home readers.

As a new competitor in the TV market, our strategy has been two-fold: open new markets and make our services available to more customers in existing markets. That’s just what we’ve done. Since the rollout in Keller, Texas, back in 2004, we’ve built a fiber-to-the-home network that reaches 15.4 million homes and small businesses. Now, in 2010, we’re on track to complete our stated goal of passing about 18 million premises. And building this network has been no easy task, as tech-journalist Jonathan Blum of demonstrated this week. Read more...

bball.JPGStarting Tuesday, 65 of the country’s top college hoops teams will compete in the annual ritual that is the national men's basketball championship tournament, also known as the Big Dance. All the while, millions of crazed fans will follow every dribble, dunk and buzzer-beating three-pointer in hopes that their tournament bracket predictions come true.

The tournament certainly makes for great television. But for many fans, it’s simply not possible to catch every game on TV. Fortunately, there are several options for Verizon customers to get their fix. Read more...

IHA Small.JPGBoy, direct marketing has come a long, long way from the early days of free samples when little boxes of detergent would arrive in the mail.

Recently, 10,000 Verizon FiOS customers got a 21st century freebie in the mail. It came in the form of a little cardboard folder with what looked like a small USB thumb drive folded in. The packaging said all they needed to do was insert this webkey in their computer and it would bring them the Verizon In-Home Agent, a dynamic new self-help tool that supports broadband, TV and phone services. Stay-at-Home Dad and Former Cable Company Employee Loves the Switch to FiOS

by Employee ‎03-08-2010 11:46 AM - edited ‎03-08-2010 11:48 AM

family.JPGToday’s guest blogger is Matt Brodeur, a former cable-company employee from Millbury, MA, who says that FiOS has enriched his family’s life in many different ways.

My name is Matt Brodeur. I'm a stay-at-home dad from Millbury, MA. I used to work as a customer service rep for a cable company, and I used to have cable Internet and TV. I've been with Verizon FiOS Internet since 2006 and FiOS TV since 2008.

The biggest difference I noticed when switching from cable to FiOS Internet was actually not how fast something downloaded, but how good my telephone calls started sounding. Read more...

With about 18,000 monthly titles, FiOS TV VOD has you covered with everything from kids programming and exercise routines to concerts and movies. And it’s simple – all you have to do is press “VOD” or “On Demand” on the FiOS remote control and you’re there. Read more...

LOGO.JPGThe TV of Tomorrow Show in San Francisco is all about interactive TV, so it's not surprising that three Verizon executives are speaking there this week. Their subject is FiOS TV Widgets, which also earned Verizon a Leadership Award for "creating the most innovative and disruptive content offering of the past year."

Maitreyi Krishnaswamy, director of interactive video services, spoke about our Widget Bazaar strategy and FiOS TV's proven record of fostering innovation. For example, she said, we've launched over 20 partner widgets since the Beta Developer Program began in October 2009. Read more...

cash.JPGWe're seeing a lot of exciting activity with Share the Network, Verizon's customer referral program. It makes sense because everyone wins. The person who refers gets a reward card, and the referred person who signs up for any of Verizon's qualifying services also gets a reward card. How cool is that? Read more...
