Ridiculousness: FiOS Mobile App Adds 24 Channels to Its Out-of-Home Offerin

150127_FiOSMobile_640x400.jpgTwenty-four is a pretty special number. There are 24 hours in a day. The NBA has its 24-second shot clock. Pure gold is 24 carats. For FiOS customers using the free FiOS Mobile App, 24 is the number of new Viacom channels available out-of-home. That’s not just special, that’s “Ridiculousness.”

While many FiOS TV customers enjoy premium channels, not all have them.  That’s why we periodically offer previews of selected networks to give people a sneak peek at the shows and movies that others are passionately talking about.  This weekend, it's HBO, Cinemax and SHOWTIME.

Christmas Classics Showdown

Is there an all-time greatest Christmas movie? With a long list of worthy contenders, it’s a challenge to pick just one. I’ll lay out my top choices and you can decide for yourself.

Christmas Vacation: 3 Reasons Why 23 Years Later, It’s Still a Classic

by Employee ‎12-12-2012 11:06 AM - edited ‎12-18-2012 04:06 PM

large.jpgChristmas movies are special because they have that unfailing ability to transport us to a place where we can momentarily forget about our own holiday anxieties and get lost in the lives of others. In the case of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” we leave our turmoil to laugh at that of the Griswold family. I’ve met enough people in my lifetime who have never seen this film that I feel compelled to not only ask them if they’ve been living under a rock their whole life, but to tell them – and you now, if you’re one of them – three things about the movie that make it the funniest, most chaotic not-so-family-friendly Christmas classic out there.

TV Evolves & Gets Greener, Too

by Employee ‎04-20-2012 04:00 PM - edited ‎04-20-2012 04:05 PM

Sunday is Earth Day.

Infographic.Borderless and Greener TV Delivery. 1MB.jpgWe occasionally talk green on this blog, but we try to make every day Earth Day at Verizon. That may sound corny and marketing-ish, but hear me out.

And as we’ve introduced FiOS TVin various markets over the last six (yes, it’s been that long), it’s been interesting to see the evolution of our service, the competition we’ve introduced, and how our services is becoming greener--for lack of a better term.

This is just one example of how we’re delivering not just better TV, but it’s also how we’re delivering it smarter and more energy efficiently.

And if you’re interested in convenient green apps, check out these five apps:

Happy Earth Day!

What If?

by Employee on ‎02-28-2012 09:26 AM

There's a lot going on at Verizon. In this short video, we share examples of just a handful of cool projects we've been working on and demonstrating around the country and the world.

It always begins with one simple question: "What if?"

The Future of TV is Looking Green

by Employee ‎01-05-2012 09:26 PM - edited ‎01-06-2012 05:10 PM

Velcro is great! You can even use it to watch TV. Well, not quite yet, but one day your set-top box, that appliance that lets you watch Modern Family in HD or DVR Monday Night Football, will be so small and light weight that you’ll be able to Velcro it to the back of your TV.

Let’s take it a step further. You’ll be able to use a media server in one room to watch live, recorded or on-demand content in other rooms as long as you have an IP connected device like a game console or a blu ray player.

In our labs in Waltham, Mass., we’re busy working with partners to develop the future of TV.

The Future.jpg

In tech terms, five years is arguably a lifetime.

Consider this: In October 2006, Verizon had 147,000 FiOS Internet customers and 118,000 FiOS TV customers and FiOS TV was only one year removed from being introduced.

Fast forward to today. Our subscriber counts for FiOS Internet and FiOS TV have swelled to 4.6 million and 4 million, respectively. As impressive as that growth represents, it is the “things” that Verizon and FiOS enables that makes us even more excited.

This week, my colleague Stefanie Scott continues her Verizon Think Forward series

on the future of work by asking people to consider how much their work style has changed in the past five years.

American families are using more and more broadband-enabled devices, including game consoles, IP-based TVs, smartphones, PCs, notebooks and tablets to make life’s daily juggle easier.

In fact, families not only have more devices in their homes, they’re also using them simultaneously, creating greater demands on the home’s broadband network.  Broadband, and specifically Fiber to the Home broadband like that of Verizon’s FiOS, is shifting how families connect and consume entertainment and information.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, you’re invited to join our next ‘Meet the Expert’ real-time chat with Ann Shaub, one of our passionate directors of product management.

A Game-Changing Football Game-Day with FiOS

by Employee ‎09-02-2011 09:26 AM - edited ‎09-02-2011 10:07 AM

Since the dawn of televised games and instant replay, technology has added a new dimension to sports of all kinds.  As high school, college and professional football teams kick off their 2011-2012 seasons, technology is in the sports entertainment mix more than ever before.

In the past week alone, I’ve seen announcements about high-tech high-school football helmets, iPads replacing pro football players’ traditional playbooks, sophisticated camera technology in the new Madden NFL 12 video game that brings realism down to a single blade of grass, leagues trying to keep players’ Tweeting and Facebooking under control, and millions of Americans gaining weight due to constant noshing as DVRs extend game time to any time.

Watch the Little League World Series in 3D on FiOS TV

by Employee ‎08-24-2011 04:00 PM - edited ‎08-24-2011 04:01 PM

If you’re a baseball fan, there’s nothing like the Little League World Series.  It’s fun to watch skilled 11- and 12-year-olds play ball for the honor of their town, region or country.

Now, there’s another dimension to the Little League experience – a third dimension, to be exact. ESPN 3D is telecasting several Little League World Series games in 3D this week, and FiOS TV 3D customers have a front-row seat.

ESPN 3D is included in the FiOS TV Ultimate HD package.  If you have a 3DTV, the cool compatible glasses and HD-capable set to box with an HDMI connection, you’re in business.  Just check out the broadcast schedule and tune to channel 1002 to watch the first pitch.
