Customers With Disabilities

American families are using more and more broadband-enabled devices, including game consoles, IP-based TVs, smartphones, PCs, notebooks and tablets to make life’s daily juggle easier.

In fact, families not only have more devices in their homes, they’re also using them simultaneously, creating greater demands on the home’s broadband network.  Broadband, and specifically Fiber to the Home broadband like that of Verizon’s FiOS, is shifting how families connect and consume entertainment and information.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, you’re invited to join our next ‘Meet the Expert’ real-time chat with Ann Shaub, one of our passionate directors of product management.

86524989 (1).jpgWe spend a lot of time here talking about FiOS Internet and TV and for good reason.  However, there are still millions of households served by Verizon that choose between either Big Cable or our High-Speed Internet (also known as digital subscriber line) service delivered over our  robust copper network.

Today, we’re making that choice a lot easier for those of you not in areas where we offer FiOS.  Our new High Speed Internet bundle offers for new Verizon High Speed Internet customers have been loaded with more value, simplified in terms of structure, and we’ve removed both contract and early-termination requirements from Verizon’s services.

For the 5th year in a row, Verizon’s FiOS Internet service has won the coveted Reader’s Choice Award from, beating out all cable competitors again this year.

FiOS Internet’s speed and reliability once again earned the highest marks from readers, with Verizon earning higher ratings than cable modem competitors with a 9.0 out of a possible high score of 10 points for speed and a nearly identical ranking of 8.9 for reliability.  The speed rating from readers reinforces the magazine’s report in June that bestowed the title of Fastest ISP in the Nation on Verizon FiOS.

Faster Internet Speeds on Verizon’s Copper Network

by ‎08-30-2010 03:28 PM - edited ‎08-30-2010 04:23 PM

1443i0828718FC63BE389We spend a lot of time talking about FiOS here at the Verizon at Home blog, but today we have some great news for millions of Verizon High Speed Internet (HSI) customers served by our reliable copper network.

We’ve more than doubled our existing maximum HSI download speeds to 10 to 15 Mbps/1 Mbps  for communities that run the gamut from Barstow in California’s Mojave Desert to Lynchburg, Virginia.  We know that speed matters wherever you are, and the fact is that our copper network has proven itself highly reliable and valuable over the years in providing a great Internet connection and service for customers with a thirst for bandwidth.

cash.JPGWe're seeing a lot of exciting activity with Share the Network, Verizon's customer referral program. It makes sense because everyone wins. The person who refers gets a reward card, and the referred person who signs up for any of Verizon's qualifying services also gets a reward card. How cool is that? Read more...

Tomorrow, I'll celebrate my 15th anniversary as a Verizon employee. Back in 1995, I left the transportation industry to join a sector I felt was on the verge of dramatic change and excitement.

My bet paid off 100 fold. Not once have I regretted the career move.

The time has flown by faster than the photos I upload of my family and friends to Facebook using my blazing fast Verizon FiOS Internet connection at home.

tv.JPGGiving great value and staying ahead of the competition is always good for consumers. That's why Verizon is so proud of the continuing innovation and service enhancements we're bringing to both our FiOS and our traditional High Speed Internet services and bundles.

During the 4th quarter of last year, FiOS TV subscriptions passed the 2.86 million mark, and FiOS Internet made it into 3.43 million homes. The fiber network now passes 15.4 million homes and businesses or almost half the total premises in Verizon territory. Read more...

HGTV and Food Network Available from Verizon

by Employee ‎01-06-2010 09:57 AM - edited ‎01-06-2010 05:19 PM

fork.JPGAs I've admitted before, I'm a shameless reality TV addict. Some of the best reality programs have nothing to do with voting someone off an Island. More often I'm now gravitating to the more "real" reality shows about food, cooking, decorating and house hunting. For example, I was excited to watch some of my favorite Food Network chefs take on the White House's executive chef, Cristeta Comerford, on Sunday Night's episode of "Iron Chef." Those commercials previewing the episode that said the secret ingredient was "of national importance" reeled me in. Read more...

Protect Yourself from the ‘876’ Fraud

876.PNGIn our business, we see a wide range of Internet and phone scams that can impact our customers. One of the best defenses we've found is to arm people with information and tips for protecting themselves. You can always find helpful information on our Web site. And from time to time, we'll also talk about specific scams here at the Verizon At Home blog. The lottery/unclaimed funds fraud is a good example. Read more...

Verizon’s Commitment to DSL, Network and Customer Service

by ‎12-10-2009 09:58 AM - edited ‎12-10-2009 11:11 AM

typing hands.JPGOne of the most extensively deployed broadband services in the U.S. is Verizon's High Speed Internet (HSI) service. The fact is that, if you live in a place where Verizon offers phone service, chances are you can get our DSL-based High Speed Internet (HSI) service. We offer it to roughly 4 out of every 5 households we serve, and it's our most widely available form of broadband Internet service. Customers like it because it provides reliable speeds and great value - a definite plus in today's economy. This year alone, we've added HSI - with speeds of up to 1 megabits per second (Mbps) or 3 Mbps - to 161,000 more local phone lines. Read more...

For the last six weeks, Verizon's customers in the Northeast and Washington, DC areas have been the first in the nation to try our new "Quad Play" bundle with TV, Internet, phone service and Wireless...and they're loving it. To refresh your memory, the Quad Play allows customers to bundle voice services from Verizon and Verizon Wireless with broadband and TV services from either FiOS or with HSI and DIRECTV services. For customers who only want to use Verizon Wireless for their voice service - well, there's a bundle for that too...and all comes on one bill.

radiosmaller.PNGPeople expect good customer service, but when a company goes the extra mile it can mean keeping a customer for life, especially when the service is critical to the customer. For a small organization on Cape Cod in Massachusetts that serves the visually impaired, reliable service from Verizon is essential. Audible Local Ledger - an affiliate of the Massachusetts Reading Service - operates over closed-circuit radio stations and uses Verizon High Speed Internet service to connect with the towers of local radio stations. The Ledger is a small non profit organization that relies completely on Verizon to assure that daily news and items of interest from local publications are carried to listeners. Read more...

This Cyber Monday, Shop Safely

ecommerce.JPGI've always been a procrastinator about holiday shopping. My kick-off to the gift-buying season has traditionally been Dec. 22. Luckily, shopping online has changed everything. Amazon,, Ebay, you name it, online shopping sites have eliminated the need to witness the holiday horrors of the crowded shopping mall. If, like many Americans, you're starting your holiday shopping on Cyber Monday, have a great time but remember, just as there are pickpockets at the mall, there are some evil folks waiting for you on line too. So here are a few tips from my friends at Verizon Online for a safe online shopping experience. Read more...

But, hey, there are a lot of smart people around here, and it's time to share the fun, their expertise and their two-cents worth. So now, three of my colleagues will join me blogging here. Twitter TWe've talked about providing the best customer experience here before. Today's customers expect an around-the-clock commitment. Just as important, customers want a variety of tools to get the help and information they need. Verizon and many other companies have jumped on social media as more and more customers are turning to Twitter and other services when they want help. But as USA Today pointed out this week, Twitter can be part of a company's customer service program, but it's not a be-all and end-all solution. Read more...

"The Interactive Media Guide takes me right to the programs I'm looking for in an instant." "I didn't know there were so many HD channels." "Blazing fast Internet." We love it when happy customers spread the word, so now Verizon wants to reward you. Simply refer a friend or family member to Verizon. If the new customer signs up for FiOS TV, FiOS Internet, High Speed Internet or phone service, both of you will be rewarded - up to $600 a year for you. Read more...

Family-Owned Business Relies on Verizon

Seafood.JPGOne of the strengths of Verizon's network is its 99.9% reliability. In an age where the buzz is all about TV and Internet, phone service sometimes gets lost, but for many small businesses, it's the nervous system that connects them with customers, and they're counting on reliable never-drop-a-call service. Take Stuart's Seafood Market in East Hampton on Long Island, New York. This family-owned business runs a bustling wholesale and retail operation. In fact, they have a refrigerator that can hold 10,000 pounds of lobster when the catch comes in. According to owner Charlotte Sasso, "Our business is completely dependent on phones. Not only do we have a walk-up counter and market here for locals..." Read more...

For the third year in a row, Verizon FiOS Internet was ranked first on the Web site's annual Internet Service Provider (ISP) Service and Reliability Survey. FiOS Internet blew the competition away, scoring 8.7 out of 10 in its overall rating -- well ahead of the closest cable rival. You've Got Mail

E-mail.JPGThe Wall Street Journal has an interesting article this week titled "Why Email No Longer Rules." The thought is that email has had a good run, but it's so yesterday. E-mail is being upstaged by a new generation of communications services. Once upon a time, according to reporter Jessica E. Vascellaro, we weren't connected to the Internet 24X7, and email worked well in bursts. Today, most of us go online as soon as we boot up, so tools like Twitter and Facebook let us communicate more frequently and informally - and faster. Read more...

Cracking the Code on 100 Mbps for Business

man and woman biz pic small.JPGIf all the confetti’s been swept up and marching bands sent home, it’s time to reconsider the hoopla around Comcast promising 100 Mbps Internet service to small businesses. In Minnesota. A couple of observations. First, it looks to us like Gizmodo's Adam Frucci cracked the code: “If you're trying to show that you can beat FiOS speeds for more than three times the price, well, nice work. But until the prices are lowered and the tech is proven to work when more than 25 people are using it, I'm not sure what it does for us.” Of course, Verizon has been offering high-speed business services for many years. We’ve listened, and we’ve delivered content on three screens – TV, computer and mobile devices – well ahead of the rest of the industry. Beginning in 2005 with ESPN360, Verizon FiOS Internet and High Speed Internet broadband customers have had access to online services like Disney Connection, StarzPlay, YES Network and NFL Game Extra. Verizon High Speed Internet Offers Value

by Employee ‎08-13-2009 03:38 PM - edited ‎10-02-2009 11:11 AM

On the economic front, the Federal Reserve now says the nation's economy seems to be on the road to recovery. That may be the case, but Americans are still looking to save money and still want products that offer quality and value. That's what makes Verizo's High Speed Internet (HSI) service a great tool for millions of consumers. When you couple it with Verizon's Freedom voice service and DIRECTV, it offers a great solution that beats similar deals from the local cable company.
