FiOS TVs Twitter Widget Gets a New Look

by ‎10-21-2010 12:19 PM - edited ‎10-21-2010 12:21 PM

twitter-icon.pngWe love talking Social TV on the blog, so when we have a new FiOS TV app or enhancements to existing ones, we want to tell our At Home followers about it first.  Today, we have some news about updates to the Twitter Widget on FiOS TV.

When we launched the Twitter Widget last year, we asked our At Home readers and Twitter followers for feedback since we’re always look for ways to make the customer experience even better.  Your biggest advice was to make the Twitter Widget more like Twitter itself, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

Available this week, the new features let customers RT (ReTweet) other posts to their followers, send a DM (Direct Message), view their profile, view global trending topics and local trending topics.  Want to add more than one Twitter account to your FiOS TV?  You can do that too; in fact, customers can add up to four accounts.

FiOS TV Visual 411 Widget Goes Mobile

V411.JPGYou might not normally think about getting listings for a new restaurant or a specialty hardware store while watching TV – then again, maybe you would if you use FiOS TV’s Visual 411 widget.  Now, you can send those business listings and even directions to certain Verizon Wireless phones.

After accessing the Visual 411 widget on FiOS TV, you just need to use the remote to do a quick category or business-name search to be able to send a listing, including address and phone number, as an SMS text to your Verizon Wireless text-enabled device.

Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!

by on ‎09-15-2010 05:15 AM

1534i96B0EADFF4EAA8B8You may already know that Hispanic Heritage Month begins today, but do you know why?  This month marks the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.  Plus, Mexico, Brazil and Chile also commemorate their Independence Days in September.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Verizon is offering FiOS TV subscribers one month of free access to some of our Spanish-language programming.  Starting today, customers can watch 18 different Spanish language channels until October 15.  The channels included are:

The NFL regular season kicked off last night, and if you watched the reigning Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints take on veteran QB Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings, I’m sure you can’t wait for Sunday’s games. With the start of the season, Verizon customers can once again use FiOS TV’s Football Widget, which has some cool new enhancements and features to check out.

Fortunately, you live in the 21st century and have access to some of the greatest inventions of all time, such as air conditioning, HDTVs, laptops and, of course, Verizon FiOS -- all of which set the stage for your escape from the dog days of summer. In fact, if you consider everything included with your FiOS package, there’s enough to keep you entertained for quite some time: Read more...

LOGO.JPGThe TV of Tomorrow Show in San Francisco is all about interactive TV, so it's not surprising that three Verizon executives are speaking there this week. Their subject is FiOS TV Widgets, which also earned Verizon a Leadership Award for "creating the most innovative and disruptive content offering of the past year."

Maitreyi Krishnaswamy, director of interactive video services, spoke about our Widget Bazaar strategy and FiOS TV's proven record of fostering innovation. For example, she said, we've launched over 20 partner widgets since the Beta Developer Program began in October 2009. Read more...

Internet and TV: So Happy Together

by Employee on ‎02-24-2010 03:06 PM

SignInTwitter.JPGEver since the Internet boom, there's been ongoing chatter about what the Internet will overtake next. We've seen it swiftly knock out newspapers as the main source for current events and even outspend television ads in the United Kingdom. For a while, it seemed like it was only a matter of time until television was next to go on the Internet's hit list.

But hold your horses. A recent New York Times story is quick to point out, in TV's defense, that this year's Super Bowl broke records for most number of viewers, beating out the 1983 final episode of "M*A*S*H." Adding to that, award shows like the Grammys are reeling in their biggest numbers in years. In short, current television ratings for big-ticket events have been indicating an upward trend in viewership. Read more...

Widget Wednesday LogoVerizon's putting a new age twist on old-school couponing with a new FiOS TV SpendSmart Widget.

I can use the SpendSmart Widget to electronically clip coupons and save them on my grocery store reward card while I'm watching my favorite shows on FiOS TV. When I go to the store, I simply use my reward card to redeem the coupons at the checkout stand. How easy is that? Read more...

What’s Your Sign?

by Employee on ‎01-20-2010 10:43 AM

Widget Wednesday LogoThe practice of astrology and horoscope reading goes back to ancient times. You may or may not believe that the position of the planets on the day of your birth can influence your destiny. Either way, it can be fun to read your daily horoscope. And, it's easy to do while you're watching TV with the FiOS TV Horoscope Widget. Just go to Widgets in the FiOS TV Interactive Media Guide menu, or press the Widgets button on your FiOS remote control. Just for kicks, I clicked on the Horoscope Widget recently to check out my astrological outlook for the day. First I checked my own sign. Read more...

Talking About FiOS TV Widgets

by Employee on ‎01-13-2010 02:51 PM

Widget Wednesday LogoOne of the big themes from CES this year is there are now a lot of TVs and devices that connect to the Internet. Verizon does it differently -- connecting people to the Internet through our network via FiOS TV. FiOS TV Widgets use this network connection to deliver Internet content to the TV screen. I sat down with Verizon's Maitreyi Krishnaswamy, who directs interactive services, to talk about FiOS TV Widgets and plans for 2010. Read more...

Widget Wednesday LogoThe BCS bowl action is coming to an end with tomorrow's anticipated match-up of Alabama (1) vs. Texas (2), and the NFL playoffs kick off this weekend. I can already hear legions of armchair quarterbacks talking to their TVs, offering up their best advice and wittiest comments to coaches, players and commentators alike. But why talk to your TV when you can use the FiOS TV Twitter Widget to offer up your hot sports opinions right on the screen for other fans to see? Launching the Twitter Widget adds a whole new dimension to the game. Read more...

Widget Wednesday: Looking Back at 2009

by Employee ‎12-30-2009 11:11 AM - edited ‎12-30-2009 11:16 AM

Widget Wednesday LogoIt's the last Widget Wednesday of the year. Looking back, I'd say 2009 was "The Year of Interactivity" for FiOS TV. We now offer more than a dozen Widgets that integrate FiOS TV with the Web and let our customers interact with their TVs in a way that's unmatched by any competitor. It's hard to believe, but we introduced our first two Widgets - traffic and weather reports - back in mid-2006. Customers could check real-time weather and traffic information on their TV screens without interrupting their programming - on demand with one click of the remote. Cable had nothing like it. by Employee ‎12-23-2009 11:42 AM - edited ‎12-23-2009 11:43 AM

Widget Wednesday LogoI love the holidays, and every year I look forward to watching "Christmas Vacation" with my girlfriends. This year, however, we won't be able to make it happen. Normally, it wouldn't be a big deal, but this is a tradition I don't think I can let go. Am I supposed to laugh at the epic Cousin Eddie all by myself? No way. Thankfully, Verizon offers a Facebook Widget on FiOS TV -- a new way to stay social, without having to leave your couch. Read more...

Widget Wednesday LogoThere's always a lot of buzz about online shopping during the holidays.
