I receive this message:  The connection to the server has failed. Subject ' David returns to Italy', Account: 'pop.netzero.net', Server: 'authsmtp.netzero.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E.

Would appreciate any help!  Thank you.

I am having the same problem where I can't send email from outlook as of this week.  Everything was working with no issues, then I guess the port switch took affect.  I switched ports to 587 and am still unable to send email.  Verizon tech support was of no assistance.  My frustration level is growing and wondering if I need to switch back.  Any resolutions would be appreciated.  Thanks

#1 Maybe it did not have to changed.

a)  If you are only using SMTP (normal default )25 and POP3 (110) with only Verizon, that port does not need to be changed.

b) For any e-mail address that is not a Verizon one that you send and recieve e-mail (web based e-mail), it does not need to be changed.

c) If on the Static IP Business class plan, you do not need to change the port.

#2 Verizon  says it has to changed to port 587, well. That is not quite true.

My parents are able to send e-mail via Verizon to AT&T's E-mail Server(s) with 465 for example as directed at http://help.att.net/docs/howto/email/nets/how_oe_w 9x-xp_setup-mail-gia.htm?area=customer_email&plat...

I've tried all different combinations including switching to port 587, 465 and keeping port 25.  I've also tried changing the outgoing server to outgoing.verizon.net (with each different port combination as well) with no luck.  I currently have three emails going to Outlook, one Verizon email which works fine and two business emails (pop3) from different providers which both can no longer send emails.  Verizon tech supports tells me to call the ISP, however I don't believe this is an ISP issue.  Any other thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks

What is the other ISP?

Try switching your SMTP port to 26.

No solution - just adding my voice in the hopes that Verizon pays attention.  I, too, am suddenly unable to send e-mail - tried the 587, tried the 25, spent three hours on the phone with a tech - a paid service - and Verizon acts as though they have never seen the problem before.

Hey Verizon - how 'bout a little help?

I wrote to NetZero, about it.

Verizon my ISP is now blocking port 25 but not for users who have a Static IP Address.

As noted on

http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/General+Support/Top+Questions/QuestionsOne/124274...

Please add another port so that people who do not have a Static Public IP can send e-mail using you as their e-mail ISP. That port does not have to be port 587 as Verizon suggest.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

In the meantime while waiting for Netzero to act (open another port), I have an idea.

If you still can use dial up - there is a way to use the speed of broadband, but also needed to keep the Netzero services running.

For example if your dial up ISP is AT&T and you wanted to keep AT&T services running, you would follow:
