Although I am now able after a day to receive/send email, my older folders and emails have also NOT yet been restored.

How is Verizon planning on compensating customers affected?  I will ABSOLUTELY be asking for a credit to my account and suggest anyone affected by this issue do the same.

Rob thanks for pointing that out. If I send from my netzero to my VZ account; then reply back both emails go through. And like you if I ping pop and smtp both time out Robot surprised

Does Kevin Mitnik have an account with VZ? (JK)

Hi All-

Here is the latest update from Verizon's Outage page on the email issue effecting some of you:

On 9/12, Verizon experienced an email service disruption that affected a small portion of our email customers. Through our restoration effort, customers are now able to send and receive email normally and will continue to have access to their calendar and address book.

We are actively restoring email folders for customers who were affected. This may take several days to complete. When the issue is fully resolved, email previously sent or received and any personal folders that customers created prior to this interruption will be available.

We apologize for the inconvenience some of our customers have experienced, and we appreciate their patience.

Thank you,
Heather

KMAy glad to hear that. I would advise patience with the folder restore, I am sure they will be back eventually,

I was luck and only had 2 meaningless emails stored in a folder and mine are not back yet. http://www.examiner.com/article/verizon-suffering-major-email-outage Apparently this  is a widespread issue

I just called Verizon since emails are still missing and was told that the issue is estimated to be resolved tomorrow, 9/14/13, morning.  The representative had to put me on hold and check.  He even did not have the info. readily for a customer.  Also, I did not see this info. on the website or hear it in a phone recording, very unprofessional.  It seems unbelievable to take this long for a company as big as Verizon.  In addition, I was told that I have to request compensation for the inconvenience.  You would think for the extensive inconvenience, that this would be automatic.

Finally, I see today that they have a message posted on webmail login page that they are working on retrieving everyone's email folders. TG.

Still no ping response (as of this post).

The Verizon outage page reports (in part, updated - 9/13/13 09:55 am EDT😞

If pop.verizon.net is not responsive (and hasn't been for the past 24+ hours), I don't see how Verizon can claim "a small portion," as I'm sure a majority do not rely solely on the web mail interface.

Still no ping response and yet, I can send and receive e-mail via MS-Outlook; see this post.

Apparently, ping timeouts to pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net produce a false negative.  Perhaps Vzn's network filters such ICMP requests?  Although for high-visibility network nodes such as smtp and pop servers, one would think ping would be a requisite and indispensible diagnostic tool.

At least for me, for now, Outlook connectivity to Vzn seems to be fully operational.

We had a email failure in our area and even though our email is up and running our folders are still not back on line. Would like to know how long before we get them back?

We are actively restoring email folders for customers who were affected. We are making progress in the restoration, however, this may take several days before all customers have been completely restored. When the issue is fully resolved, email previously sent or received and any personal folders that customers created prior to this interruption will be available.
