I want to set up Windows Mail. What are the complete settings-ports, POP3, SMTP, etc.? Should "server authentication" be checked?

incoming.verizon.net (incoming server)
outgoing.verizon.net (outgoing server)
username
password
"my server requires authorizaton" should be checked (not the one that says secure password authentication)
other than that all other settings should be left at their defaults.

spacedebris seems to have beat me to the punch.
For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up fictional account "fakeacct@verizon.net" and the password for logging into that account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.
The settings for using Verizon's servers would be:
Incoming Server: incoming.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes
Username: fakeacct
Password: fakepassword
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
Port: 110
Outgoing Server: outgoing.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes (You can set it to use the same settings as incoming, or manually enter the username and password.)
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
Port: 25 (although 587 also works.)
These settings should work unless you have a Verizon/Yahoo account, in which case the server names are: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net -and- outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

That doesn't work. This is the eror message that I get:
Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I've tried incoming.yahoo.verizon.net as well as incoming.verizon.net. Neither one works. Likewise, I've tried outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net as well as outgoing.verizon.net. Neither one works. I've tried port 25 as well as port 587. Neither one works. When I try to logon, I enter my user name & password & the window pops up again!

Looks like you may have an incorrect username/password. Verify your username/password by logging into verizon.net with it.

I had no problem logging into verizon.net! Something is definitely screwed up!

The following settings are taken directly from my PC set up with Windows Live mail:
Incoming Server: pop3 server
Incoming mail: incoming.verizon.net
outgoing mail: outgoing.verizon.net
incoming mail server
Email username: <yourusernamewithout@verizon.net> jsmith
Password: <password for username above> *****
Log on using clear text authentication is checked
Outgoing Mail Server:
Box is checked for "My server requires authentication.
Click Settings and choose: Use Same Settings as my incoming mail server.
Under the advanced tab:
outgoing mail is using port 25 no check marks on SSL
incoming mail i using port 110 no check marks on SSL.

Ever since the migration to Verizon Yahoo from the Windows Mail that you are getting rid of on the 26th I cannot pull email in through the email program on the computer. I hate signing in to the internet page and now it's even worse than before. I really liked the old way and was very glad that the sub accounts weren't switched over yet.
The settings were NEVER changed from the original ones that actually pulled the email. Like I said the sub accounts that hadn't been linked yet still work in that program.
There is a setting that needs to be changed, which I'm thinking is the PoP3. But what do you change it to? Sometimes you don't fix what isn't broken and I broke what you said would be nicer. It isn't.

HUH??? It worked! For some weird reason, it worked! I changed it from incoming.verizon.net to incoming.yahoo.verizon.net & from outgoing.verizon.net to outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net. The last time that I tried that, it didn't work! What is "Log on using clear text authentication"? I don't see that. I do see "Logon on using Secure Password Authentication". It is not checked. Do I need to check that?
How do I download all of my e-mail messages on to my hard drive?
With my luck, it won't work the next time that I try to use Windows Mail!

it worked, because you have yahoo as a portal partner, and those are the correct servers for verizon w/ yahoo
as soon as you configure windows mail, and click send/recieve, it should download any email on the server, to your hard drive
dont check any of that other stuff
