yes old settings will still work... for now. It will stop working dec. 2. I have seen lots of problems with apple products because it wont save the new information when you put it in. usually powering of the apple device and back on will fix the problem though.

Jose,

Thank you for the reply. Perhaps I should have clarified that I'm using JBMail Plus for sending email. It does have SSL. Here is a screenshot. The program is very easy to configure. Note that this setting does NOT work for sending email, nor does port 995 work for receiving it.

I have also tried configuring Thunderbird for both sending and receiving with no luck. I downloaded Postbox last night and tried it, again with the same result -- inability to send and receive mail with the new ports. At this point, I am willing to use any email clients that will actually work with these ports.

@pekoe6 when is the last time you logged into your account at webmail.verizon.net? If you have not signed in online for a long time then that can cause problems. need to make sure you can do that before going through all the other trouble steps because I have seen it many times where everything starts working right after you sign into your online account. Just a thought.

oops sorry you have yahoo. I mean you need to sign into your yahoo portal

I log into my yahoo portal nearly every day to check my spam filter. So, I've regularly accessed my yahoo portal, but thank you for the suggestion.

Pekoe, I use zohomail free version www.zoho.com/mailand have not had any issues with the new settings.

As suggest earlier, please try this link just to rule out a password issue https://mail.verizon.com/webmail/driver?nimlet=showmessages&view=emails

Bearsfolks in your earlier post (the 4th one in this thread, SSL was set to NO - It needs to be set to yes for standard VZ Email.

Jose,

Thank you for the suggestions! I will check out zohomail. I have no problem logging into my accounts via web-based mail. Since I have the Yahoo portal, I generally use this link and just sign in:  https://www.yahoo.com/

However, I clicked on your link and was also able to sign in with no problem.

In another thread, I think, someone said there was a server issue with customers who have the Yahoo portal. That would make sense, but I would hope the issue is being worked on.

The error message I'm getting when trying to send or receive mail using the new ports is: Error: Unable to connect to host.

Hi Jose,

I was just checking out zohomail, and it appears to be web-based, which I don't want. I want to use a desktop email client like Thunderbird. Or is there something I'm not understanding about zohomail?

pekoe6:  Thanks to JOSEm441, I have been able to get LiveMail to workwith the new settings.  It has always had a few quirks (what doesn't!) but all my messages get downloaded to my computer.  I use multiple computers, and I can access the messages (including my hotmail account) onto any of them, as I have all the computers except one to leave the messages on the server.  My main machine is the one which deletes the messages from the server.  The only pain is when you try to transfer folders from one machine to another--it's a bit tedious, and also transferring groups of contacts.

Bearsfolks,

Thank you for your message! Since you are using the Yahoo portal like me, I'm extremely interested in this. It sounds like for you, your just needed to make sure SSL was activated.

I've now tried three different desktop email clients with the new settings and still can't get them to work. I have tried creating a new profile in one email client with no success. I downloaded Postbox (a new program) and set it up -- still no success.

I'm using Win XP SP3. Email clients I have tried are Thunderbird, JBMail (no longer being developed, but I've used it for years), and Postbox. I will try LiveMail to see if that makes a difference, but I doubt it.

I have rebooted my computer after changing settings. I've turned my modem off and back on again after changing settings. I've done everything I can think of with no success.

I've definitely configured things properly according to the instructions.

Thanks for any continued help. I really don't understand why some people can get these settings to work and others can't.

pekoe6:  I'm using Win 7.  I can't remember if I was using LiveMail or Outlook Express (its precursor) when I used XP.

If you decide to use LiveMail, let me know if it would help you if I posted images of each page in the e-mail setup.
