Verizon may think this is doing me and others a favor....but it is far from it. I have 3 accts. I changed one. Since then that acct CAN NOT get or send mail w/o error msg popping up. The settings were done exactly as the email instructed me to do. I changed the acct back to what it was prior...works fine.
However, since they have a "major change' planned, after that change the working settings will no longer work.. I read all of the posts here. My settings were changed to the stated settings in the notification email.....they do NOT work. Plain and simple.
Worse, I could not even post here (like I need to waste time trying to get a program that worked once to work again due to Verizon incompetence) until I verified my home verizon acct via numerous steps. I don't pay hard earned money each month to have to deal with this.
What is going on that verizon instructions will not get verizon email? I am using an outlook program from Office 2000...but that should not be a problem. If verizon designs a program that will not work with it, then they should provide an answer that will get it to work.
Is there anyone on here from Verizon, or is it populated with those more knowlegeable than others who are kind enough to donate their time and efforts? If no verizon people, why not? It appears to be their problem.
For now, I am leaving my settings on all accts to the old ones and hoping that Ver will get things right by the time the mandated change happens.
One Frustrated Customer.

"should be able to use...." seems to be the operative word here. But when the appropriate settings are applied and it still does not work, it would "seem" that things are not working as Ver planned.
It think it is time for a new plan, too many frustrated people....and this is even before the mandated change. I hate to think how this place will load up after May and people find they can no longer get or send email.
A total fiasco so far.

That depends on whether you are using the new settings or not. Unless you post your settings, with your personal info hidden, nobody can answer that question correctly. The settings are all consistent across various email clients, although the settings may be in different locations or defined somewhat differently, depending on the client.
Go to the first post in this thread where the various settings are shown. Do they match? If not, changes are needed. Or post your settings here and somebody should be able to easily tell you whether you are using the most current settings. One setting that might need to be changed that is not shown is the login option, it should be set to "text" or whatever the description is in Outlook 2013.

OK, you want it simple. Do you also want it to be more difficult for a hacker to see the contents of your emails, to protect your identity, etc.? This change is all about implementing SSL, the Secure Sockets Layer, in Verizon's email. Implementing this will make it more difficult for someone to read your email.
Just make the changes as documented in the first post in this thread and that should be all that is needed, although you might need to make a change to Text for your login.
If you refuse to make the change, at some point the only way you will be able to access your Verizon email is via the webmail interface, not any client. If that is acceptable to you, fine. Or you can discontinue using Verizon email completely and use some other email service, like Gmail. Just because you use Verizon for your internet service does not mean you must use Verizon's email service.
Hopefully this will be the only change for a while, but who knows....

thanks for your clarification - I understand that part
however with those changes I still get the same error messages
My settings are as follows:
Incoming mail server – pop.verizon.net
Outgoing mail server – smtp.verizon.net
Require logon using secure password authentication (SPA) - NO
My outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication – YES
Use same settings as my incoming mail server – YES
Connect using my local area network (LAN) – YES
Incoming server (POP3) – 995
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) – 465
This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) – YES
Use the following type of encrypted connection - SSL
old settings work OK but not the new ones
I remember that Verizon tried this back in 2013 - didn't work then either
thanks for your help

I am interested in your question and will follow your example as given but I don't even know know how or where to access the site of incoming/outgoing information site. I am still using Microsoft XP as that is plenty for me. Why does Verizon not give step by step directions. I do not have a computer savey grandchild.
Thanks guys

Justin,
I understand and agree with what you are saying. I made those changes on my Outlook and smart phone device and it wasn't that bad.
But what I don't understand is why we are forced to go through "verizonwireless" whenever we log into our email directly through the Verizon server by clicking on "email". What I've been doing instead is following what the Verizon Retiree posted as a work-around solution: clicking on "change" for "my location" toward the upper right hand corner and by logging into email that way, that avoids the Verizon Wireless link. I haven't seen anybody give any explanation for this "Verizion Wireless" route. It has only been stated that this is "normal" but is that really true? How do I know that this isn't a hacking attempt from someone to re-route our emails to that company instead? I'm paying for Verizon Fios, so what should Verizon Wireless have to do with this? So I've been using that work around solution that somebody posted here, at least for the time being, because I am not comfortable going through Verrizon Wireless. It doesn't make any sense and the communication regarding this has been poor.

The verizon wireless had better checking so they decided to go with it. DOES NOT EFFECT eMAIL CLIENTS which do not use verizon wireless checking but does effect WEBMAIL.
