Email issue

I recently upgraded my computer from XP to WIN7. Prior to upgrading, I copied my Outlook PST file to a local backup drive. In aadition, the upgrade saved the file under the Windows.old folder. When I fire up Outlook and try to improt the PST file I get promted for a password. I never passworded the file but I went ahead and tried my last 3 Verizxon passwords with no luck. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Have you tried leaving the password field blank? Also there is a tool listed here: http://www.fixkb.com/2012/01/forgot-password-of-outlook-data-file.html  IF you try it make sure to do a virus scan before running or installing. I would highly recommend Armond in NJ's solution first!

In Windows 7, you may find that sharing and file properties behave slightly differently from your experience in XP.

In Win 7, open an admin user account (i.e., a user account with unlimited privileges).  Then find the Outlook .pst file in question, right click and open "Properties," and change the ownership and sharing properties of the file to something like Everyone, your own name, etc.  Do this everywhere in properties that you find something that seems related to security, ownership, etc.  Usually there is more than a single instance.  Then close down and re-try importing and opening the file in Outlook.

Thanks to both of you. I tried all of the permissions changes with no luck. thankfully, the recommended application worked and I was able to unlock the file and get all of my emails back. Again, thanks to much for you help and very quick replies.
