I called it over a year ago!

Last year (7/8/14) in a message I posted out of frustration regarding the uncontrollable spam coming into my Verizon email account I predicted that this was because they wanted people to stop using their email system and this was because that sometime in the near future (I predicted 1 to 3 years) they wanted to completely shut down email.  BUT I GUESS I WAS RIGHT.  Getting rid of email is a huge cost saving which will, of course, make profits bigger and top shareholders richer.  Now you will lose your email if you don't use it for six months.  My next prediction is that that they will totally shut it down, even if you DO use it, probably in another 2 years or so.  Who knows what's next?  Almost everyone has a cell phone now, so maybe they'll do away with landline service (and of course encourage you to go to Verizon wireless).

They are not shutting down email.  Your prediction is wrong.  And no savings will occur for those using their email accounts.  They are however finding lots of people using other email services and for those it's a savings.

IF you don't attempt to read email in 6 months you are of course not using it, If you use a email client such as one in a smart phone or on a PC, then its regular check is enough to satisfy your access requirement.

Not only are they not shutting down email, they  are now letting people keep the email service after they leave verizon. Customers will no longer have to pay for the keepmyemail service. Free email after service is disconnected.

"Our policy change applies to you if you haven’t accessed your verizon.net email account, including subaccounts, in over six months (180 days).  If you want to keep it, doing so is simple.  Go to webmail.verizon.com from a computer or laptop within the next 30 days and log into your account.  After that, as long as you access your email at least once every six months, it will remain active.

With this change, if you choose not to reactivate your verizon.net email account, including subaccounts, which have not been accessed in over six months, they will be deleted from our system.  Once deleted, the account(s) cannot be reactivated. "

This is verbatim from the email they sent me.  Any accounts, including main and subaccounts, will be deleted if not accessed after 180 days.  Looks to me that if you don't access any of them after 180 days they will all be deleted.  Some of the wording here doesn't make sense.  If I choose not to reactivate an account after not accessing it for 6 months it will be deleted.  This implies that even though I haven't accessed an account after 6 months I can reactivate it, but at the same time it says it will be deleted.  How do I reactivate after 6 months and before it's deleted?  How much time do I have to do this?  Where do I go to reactivate?

With them switching everyone over to AOL for email you probably need to see if you can find answers there.

AOL is now owned by Verizon.  And anyone can get a account from them.

The first group of users being converted are those being switched over to Frontier next year.  I.e California, Florida and Texas.
