I had the exact same problem last week and this was the first time it has ever happened.  I use Yahoo POP 3 via Outlook 2007.  They were two verizon.net addresses and I did not see any problems with any other domain e-mail addresses so clearly this is a quirky problem (the most difficult to diagnose and solve).  It's fine to say use the Yahoo web-based server to send e-mail but that defeats the purpose of maintaining everything in Outlook (calendar, contacts, etc).  I will be interested to see if there is a follow up to this.  I assume that anyone using their verizon.net account does not have this problem.

GaryDoug,

I'd like to run something past you.

If I Forward my verizon.net to my Gmail account AND there is something awry with the verizon.net Incoming server, will my mail still be Forwarded to Gmail?

I'm using Forward in the formal sense; to wit, on my View Subaccounts settings page, I turn E-mail Forwarding ON, and specify my Gmail address.

This is not the same as configuring my Gmail Settings to Fetch POP3 mail from verizon.net and leave (or not leave) mail on the verizon.net server.

Why would do I this? Because every few weeks or so I can't access verizon.net's Incoming and/or Outgoing server. That means folks can't reach me or I can't get mail out to them. I have no intention of trying to convince tech support there might be a problem with one of their precious servers.

First of all I would like to mention that I am no expert on email, just have been using it for about as long as it has existed, on at least a dozen providers.

I would guess not, since I believe that what triggers the forward is probably the receipt of the message on the Vz incoming server.

Do you really have that many problems with the Vz servers? I only ask because I haven't noticed any in the 3 months that I have used them. However I have noticed occasional brief interruptions on two of my other services (godaddy and Roadrunner). For comparison, I'm using WLM that came free with Win7. As I stated before, I favor not using any forwarding services, but rather configuring your email client to get/send messages from/to all your accounts wherever they are located. That way you can tell immediately which one is at fault. And you don't put all the "eggs" in one email basket.

GaryDoug,

Actually, problems have occurred at least 3-4 times this year alone. I have a friend on att.net who gets her mails to me blocked and then delivered days later. And I myself have had the Outgoing server time out when I'm trying to send a message.

However, your advice to configure my client (in my case, OS X Mail app) to access both my accounts separately (no Forwarding or Fetching) makes the most sense.

But from what I've seen on these Forums, it seems a lot of folks experience problems with the verizon.net servers from time to time. My list of correspondents (both e-mail and business) whom I'd have to notify were I to abandon my verizon.net account and use Gmail exclusively is a bit of a deterrent.

I did go to my verizon.net Mail provisioning and add the att.net domain to my Safe list.

BTW - are you aware that both verizon.net and att.net actually use Yahoo's servers for all their mail?

...that's not true. ATT does, yes. Verizon has their own mail servers. The only time a Verizon account would use a Yahoo mail server is if you have signed up for Yahoo as your portal partner. Otherwise, it's all Verizon.

SomeGirl:  The workaround did not work.

GaryDoug: Thanks.  Now why did I not think of that?

I have reconfigured my Yahoo account so that instead of forwarding, I POP it directly, as you suggested.

(I use a POP email client on a PC that downloads and removes all my email from the email server.  I already use multiple E-mail accounts.  I don't like keeping personal mail on corporate servers.)

A person from Yahoo responded and they said they need to work with Verizon on the issue.  I forwarded the request to Verizon, but instead of a person, I got a canned automated response.   I still don't know the best way to contact Verizon over this issue.  The issue is pending with the Verizon postmaster.

However, as a result of this incident, my plan is to stop eventually using Verizon mail servers altogether.   I suspect this is a Verizon problem; likely their mail servers are overloaded.

Now why am I using a Yahoo email address instead of a Verizon email address?

Generally, it is a BAD IDEA to give anyone your ISP's email address.   Use a permanent email address instead.    This is in case you need to use a different ISP in the future.

I hate to sound like ObviousMan, but if that's the case, then why even bother with using mail from your ISP?

While the server names for verizon.net and yahoo.verizon.net are different, is there a possibility that Yahoo administers and operates both of them them for Verizon Online?

Nope. I know for a fact that Verizon owns and operates their own email servers. Yahoo is ONLY involved for Yahoo portalled accounts.

I have been having this problem for the past week.  Emails to my mom and three other people from my kids' school bounce back about 48 hours after I send them.  This is very aggravating, as we have a huge school event next weekend and two of those people are on the planning committee with me.  We can't communicate, and I don't know they haven't gotten my email until 2 days later!

I have the same Yahoo account that I have had for 13 years.  I use it on FiOS, that I have had for a few years, maybe two.  My mom has her same Verizon.net account that she has had for years, and she uses it on FiOS as well.  It was set up for her by the tech and she probably couldn't reconfigure it if she tr

I'm additionally frustrated because the virtual support agent is useless for this, the Live Agent is *closed* (what the heck??), and email support isn't available for internet issues.  (Again, what the heck?)

This needs to get fixed, like, a week ago.
