Messages being deleted from server

I have periodically experienced a problem with e-mail messages on the Verizon server being moved from the inbox to the trash folder without me telling it to do this.

Yesterday all of the messages that were in my inbox on the server completely disappeared.  They were not in the trash folder, but they were completely gone.  Again, I did not ask for this to happen.

My settings include that messages should be left on the server.

Has anyone else had the same problem?  Was anyone able to find a solution to it?

Thanks.

I don't use VZ mail, but perhaps there's a setting in there that says "move to trash in X days?"

Only time I have seen this happen was when a person had a third party email client,    what program are you using?   and how old are those messages.

I am pretty sure the messages on the verizon server stay on there for 30 some odd days before getting deleted if I remember right...

Thanks for the comments.

The problem with the messages being deleted is that this is not due to any setting saying that they should be moved to a trash folder or deleted.  This is happening to all of the messages in my inbox, including those that were received that same day.

I read that Verizon now has a policy of deleting email after 60 days.  If you want to retain your emails, create folders for them as you would in your office (if you are actively employed).

Verizon has an automated bot that will go through the Verizon email servers and clear out old emails to keep their servers from filling up. Its rather random and doenst seem to hit everyone, but any emails over either 45 or 60 days ( I dont remember which it said) is fair game for the cleaning. If it remains in your inbox that is. If you create a custom folder and put it in there, it is then supposed to be exempt from the random deletion.

Are you certain that you are not using any other email program such as outlook express, outlook, thunderbird etc?  Mail received on an email program will delete the mail off the server (if checked to do so).  Have you ever configured a mail client on another PC?

I know someone that bought a  new PC, set it up themselves and then gave the old PC to their grandchildren.  Because they never deleted the mail account on the old PC their grandkids opened outlook express one day and never turned it off and downloaded his mail each time it arrived.  It took me a few days to realize this when I asked where his old PC went.  When we got to his grandkids house, outlook express was opened and all his mail was there.

Why does my e-mail disappear in WebMail after I read it?

I thought it was supposed to stay on the server for 30 days.

If you are using an Email Client such as outlook, there is an account setting in the software to leave it on the server. Otherwise it will go away. If I am running a second client away from my standard PC, that is what I set so when I come home I will get it on my PC at home. If you constantly leave mail on the Verizon server, your mailbox can fill up and cause issues. Also like you said, I believe you can set webmail to keep it for a certain amount of time. But if you box fills up before then, you run into issues again.

I've been having this same problem for months.  It started when I bought a new computer with Windows7, but I don't know if that is just a coincidence or not.

I have disabled all third party email clients, and sent myself a few test messages from yahoo.com email account.  The test messages arrive in the verizon webmail inbox but within half an hour they disappear.

I've already been on the phone with their support team (who I can barely understand) for a couple of hours.  He took control of my computer, made changes to different settings and to my virus scanner, had me fill in ALL acceptable domains  in my list of domains I want to receive mail from etc. etc.  The mail still disappears.

I am at my wits end.
