Problem with sending mail via Outlook 2010

Greetings.

After coming back from a two week business trip, I discovered for some unknown reason, that I cannot send e-mail using Outlook.  I have checked (several times) my settings and all appear to be OK.  I am able to receive e-mail just fine but no go with trying to send something.  The response that I am getting is that the server is rejecting my login.   This is very perplexing because it has worked fine in the past.  I am able to log on to the Verizon web mail service just fine.

Does anyone have any thoughts on where I can check to see where something might be amiss?

Thanks in advance,

John

I may be way off here, and if I am some members will rush in here to correct meSmiley Wink. Check your port number in the SMTP section of your email client's account. If it's 25, try changing it to 587. I only suggest it because you didn't say which provider you use.

GaryDoug,

I have checked the port settings and it is set to 587.  My provider is Verizon.

Thanks,

John

Here's what I would do:

1. Check the SMTP connection settings including password. SMTP needs to be set for authentication with the same login id/password as the POP section, and set to Not secured/clear text. The SMTP server = outgoing.verizon.net.

2. If nothing works, I would download and install a free client, like Thunderbird.  During installation, you can uncheck the box for "Set as default email program" (or something like that). I would use this one simply because it's easy at auto setup, like in picking the correct server names and ports. Then try to send with that. If it works, then you can suspect something in Outlook's setup. If not, maybe a call to Vz is required.

Good luck

I also have the same exact problem.  My Outlook 2010 stopped sending emails on Saturday 9/25.  I began contacting Verizon, Norton & Microsoft on 9/26 after my own attempts to troubleshoot failed.  Have spent in excess of 50+ hours on the phone with Verizon and Microsoft who only point the finger at each other.  I'm stuck in the middle with no solution.  I can send email thru Outlook Express 6 just not Outlook 2010.  Seems like another MS bug to me, but I don't know how to find it or correct.  I'm frustrated to say the least.

Verizon has confirmed that all settings are correct and MS refuses to believe that it might have a problem with 2010.  Any suggestions or help.  MS also told me today that they have 4 other reported cases of trouble with sending email in 2010 with Verizon customers.

Wow, after Googling "Outlook 2010 problems" I see about a zillion results, and this version is only a couple months old! If I were you, I would use an older version, or another client entirely until MS sorts this one out.

I'm having the same problem with Outlook 2010. Until Sept. 25, I could send and receive email from my Verizon email account. Since 9/25, I haven't been able to send email but could at least receive it. Today I suddenly can no longer receive email from my Verizon account. I've checked all the account settings and everything is in order. What's going on, Verizon??? I've spent an eternity on hold trying to reach a Verizon representative.

Well, I just loaded Outlook 2007 on my laptop and tried to configure it.  Unfortunately, I am getting the same result as I am with Outlook 2010.

I must admit, I am at wits end here.

All,

Where are you located?

If you are in AZ, ID, IL, IN, MI, NV, NC, OH, OR, SC, WA, WV, WI, or some areas in CA that border those states, you may have been switched over to Frontier. In that case, you'd need to use their servers.

(That was the resolution for this thread, figured I'd at least mention it here.)
