I am in the same boat. This is **bleep**. They tried to tell me that maybe outlook was bad or computer had a problem. Less than 24hrs after my new verizon install. Come on. Take ownership and fix it.
My outlook email has been working fine for years, now I find out they have updated their servers and I can't send email. The Verizon rep could not help me so they tried to send me to their "premium" tech dept that wants to charge to fix your problem! Unbelieveable how greedy this company is...won't even stand up and fix the problems they have created.

What you did to fix the problem is not a fix at all, Having to change the settings on the computer using Outlook, either 2007 or 2010, shouldn't be the solution, I work from home sometimes and use a Laptop, other times i'm working at the office, in neither case i should have the need to change any setting of my computer for my EMAIL to go thru, this is total ***Bleep^* , if you know what i mean.
I've looked in the router configuration/firewall to see if there was something there stoping th mail from going thru but I don't belive that to be the case, it is on their Servers that they don't allow other email acounts to go out using the FIOS connection.
Get with the program Verizon, most of us have josb and don't like sending work emails with our Home Email Address.

The "solution" is to use the settings required by your ISP. Like it or not, Verizon is in the process of a complete changeover from the older email settings to the new settings. There are many reasons for this change, and most of those reasons are security-related. None of the reasons have to do with annoying customers, giving subscribers a hard time, or just plain being obstinate. For the record, I am using both Outlook 2003, and Outlook 2010, on five separate computers, as well as several Linux email applications on two additional Linux boxes. All of these systems are operating per design, with zero issues.
Both the old and the new settings will work for a certain period of time until the changeover is complete. Once it is complete, only the new settings will work. The purpose of this "dual" setup is to allow users sufficient time to make the changes and be certain that they work. Please note that this subject (and this explanation) have been the subject of perhaps several hundred separate posts on this Forum for going on two months.
I am certain that if you search this subject on these forums, and in addition become familiar with the available Verizon documentation on the subject, you will be able to achieve a successful result. Good luck and keep us posted.
I was having a problem sending emails thru outlook. I recently moved and have ATT U Verse, but I still have my verizon email accounts. Noone could help me. I finally figured it out on my own and reading other problems from other people. 1st I had to log into my att.net email/user id given to me when I signed up. They use Yahoo, so I had to go to "ADD OTHER EMAIL ADDRESSES". I added the verizon adresses, whererby att sends verification emails to my verizon accts. I then had to go to the outgoing server section of my email acct settings. I had to put my logon info for ATT U Verse in the SMTP. VErything is fine now and I can send emails thru outlook.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS FOR 2013!!
We continue to follow this because WE CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS SENDING with our Outlook since the Verizon changes to all our accounts.
We realized it was all the versions of Outlook and spending hundreds on the newest Outlook version was not the answer.
MS told us this and they claim it is a problem with the Servers settings.
We will continue to stay subscribed to this Forum and praying that some one with find the error and correct the server settings for all of us.
In the meantime the only way we found to send a email without any errors or interruption of serves and sending is to open a Web Based email account.
If we want to reach people with out a error or have the sending in our OUTLOOK stop again and again we found the only really reliable fix is a web based email account.
I would never and don't use it for secured materials, however I can ask for individuals to contact us or me them and then share the information.
I change my verizon email setting from
incoming.verizon.net to pop.verizon.net port 995
outgoing.verizon.net to smtp.verizon.net port 465
I am able to receive email but not sending . I found many of the user have same problem/
