SPAM and mailsrvcs.net

I receive a daily load of spam routed from mailsrvcs.net , which from what I've read in the email forum is somehow associated with verizon. I use windows live mail and each day mark 10 to 20 messages as junk and add them to the blocked senders list. the next day I get the same and more spam and go through the same blocking process again. I have the spam filter on at my verizon message center setup. How can I make this spam stop? Is verizon associated with mailsrvcs.net? If yes, why do they allow this unwanted email?????

If you see something like "vms173007.mailsrvcs.net" - this is a Verizon mail server. However, being routed *through* the server is not the same as being *from* the server. All mail going into or out of your verizon.net account will at some point be processed by a Verizon mail server. This is the same as saying all mail coming to or from your house will be handled by your mailman. The mailman isn't responsible for the junk mail you get.

There are a number of options to help combat spam, but which one will be most effective depends on the type of spam you are receiving and where it's coming from. Verizon offers the option to block individual senders or entire domains, and also offers Filters which can be configured in a variety of ways.

If the majority of your spam is coming from one sender, block them. If the majority of your spam is for a certain product, set up a filter to block mail with a subject containing that word. For example: If Subject contains viagra then discard message.

For added oomph with your filters, you can set them to forward the message to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net instead of discarding them. You won't get any response, but this reports the message as spam and helps Verizon improve their filters.

The Vz filters and blocking do not work most of the time. I've put in 300 blocks and Vz says that's the max on blocking. Vz has also capped off my filtering.

I also have sent many, many spam emails to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net and never receive any reply  nor does the spam stop. About 50% are not caught.

Will seriously look at changing IP. I understand Vz will not let you change your Vz ID - is that correct?

Any helpful responses would be welcomed.
