which webpage address are you using.
i know some people that have had trouble getting onto http://webmail.verizon.net have had issues, and when they go to http://webmail.verizon.com they seem to be able to access.
my advice is to sign on at http://www.myverizon.com and sign in there, there might be a step where the website wants to link your username and password together with your email.

Thanks for the advice....
When I go to the link you posted http://www.myverizon.com It acts like it wants to load then I get an error page "IE unable to load page" three tries later no luck. I noticed it redirects to www2.verizon.com/ ...../signin and then craters again.
Howevr, as I wrote this I tried again and it came up andn this is the link displayed - which means it had my log in onfo stored and it worked http://www22.verizon.com/foryourhome/MyAccount/Protected/Overview/MyOverview.aspx
What a puzzle...

I can't access my email either. I login to my account through verizon.net and it shows a few new messages but when I click on to read the mail, I get an error message" Can't connect to netmail.verizon.net." The one message I want to read, under the subject it says "Important change to your Webmail" I can't open because of the error message.

I too am having problems getting my email. sending works fine but getting it is next to impossible.I came access it by loging in through anothe service (Comcast, at&t) but through my verison line nothing. I live in lancaster PA. And I'm not the only one I know in the area that's having problems. I.ve tried thru the web (Firefox, IE) and trough clients (Outlook, wondows live mail, thunderbird). The last mail I could get through the verizon line was from the 20th.

I can get into my incoming box but all of the messages disappeared 8/19. I began receiving new messages but the old ones have not appeared. Message line under screen log in tells me I have 19 unread messages but inbox is empty. Vernizon tells me it's a server glitch and to check back 8/23. This has happened twice -- 8/12 and 8/19 Pat123

In the URL string that's displayed in your browser when it fails ... what hostname is it trying to go to? Can you open a command window (Start -> Run -> "cmd") and run a "tracert" command to that hostname? I've been chasing a problem for a couple of local people in the neighborhood who are on DSL that can't reach the Yahoo! webmail portal and in there cases it appears to be a routing issue in the Verizon cloud ...

I found while not being able to Get my mail directly I did find a way of getting the newer mail. I changed the setting for forwarding the emails to my gmail account. This way I can read my emails until verizon get's it's act together an fix the problem. The only problem it willonly forward the new emails, not the ones that are waiting for me to read.I like to keep some of them that I find important within Outlook but this isn't posible at the moment.

Actually, if you have a gmail account, you can go into settings and then under the "Accounts" tab and set it up to poll in your mail from your Verizon mailbox -- no forwarding involved. Sender's header is preserved and if you go thru the verification process you can even set it up so that you can "reply" to the messages using your Verizon address instead of our gmail address.
