Is this with your verizon.net address or a third party? What error are you getting when you attempt to send?
Your outgoing email virus scan can also be hanging this up as well. Please delete any emails currently in your outbox waiting to send then temporarily turn off Avast completely to try sending a test email. That will tell you if its your anti-virus causing the problem. Please dont forget to turn it back on after you are done doing your testing.
