Morning
I would like to be able to use Microsoft Office Outlook to retrieve my email instead of Outlook Express. Can anyone guide me through the process or would you recommend I go through Tech Support?
Thank you,
miss

Morning Lasagna
The little icon says "Microsoft Office Outlook 2003". Yes, I know it's old but that's it. :):):) Also, I'm NOT a "techie" so I need all the help I can get.
Thanks for responding to my email.

OK, this is for regular Verizon accounts. If you have the Yahoo or AOL "experience" (what's your webmail client look like?), then the instructions are slightly different. If so, let me know and I'll figure out the differences. Otherwise:
- On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
- Select Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
- Select POP3, and then click Next.
On the screen provide the following information:
Your Name: Your given name as you want others to see it
E-mail address: Your @verizon.net email address (with the @verizon.net on the end)
Incoming Mail Server: incoming.verizon.net
Outgoing Mail Server: outgoing.verizon.net
User name: Your @verizon.net email address (with the @verizon.net on the end)
Password: Your email password
Remember Password: Checked
Logon Using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Not Checked
Now, click on the More Settings button.
On the General tab:
Mail Account: Verizon Online (or whatever name you like to differentiate from other accounts you may create)
Click on the Outgoing Server tab and make the following changes:
My Outgoing (SMTP) Server Requires Authentication: Checked
Use Same Settings as my Incoming Mail Server: Selected
Now, click on the Advanced tab and make the following changes:
Incoming Server (POP3): 110
This Server Requires encrypted connection (SSL): Not Checked
Outgoing Server (SMTP): 587
This Server Requires encrypted connection (SSL): Not Checked
If you will also be using the Web Mail interface, you might want to check the "Leave Messages on Server" box and also check the "Remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items" boxes. If you will only be using the Outlook client, leave the box unchecked.
Lastly, click on OK and answer any remaining configuration questions. Your account should now be configured to receive mail.

Hello again
I hate to admit this but I'm scared to try this. If I do something wrong would Verizon Support Service be able to "undo" my mess? I want this program because I'm not able to even find the darn Verizon Calendar. That's something I used everyday when I was working and it was such a great tool - isn't that ridiculous?
I'm going to print off your instructions and hopefully I'll have the courage to try it later. Either way, thanks so much for your help.

Changing Microsoft Outlook settings won't affect your Outlook Express settings. If it doesn't work for you, simply, delete the Microsoft Outlook profile and no harm no foul. But it will work .... the instructions may look confusing, but they're not. They are just complete so that as you look at each screen you should see exactly what each blank on that screen should say. Just print it out and follow it like a recipe from a cookbook. You'll be fine.

Hi
I"M BAAAAAACK!
I did get up the gumption to try it but I'm ashamed to say it didn't work. I couldn't run a test email and kept getting "failed" notifications. I'm afraid I have to call Verizon tech support tomorrow and have them get me back to where I was before because my system is really all messed up now. I promise I took it step by step but for some reason it just doesn't want to cooperate.
Again, thank you for your help. I knew in my heart of hearts I shouldn't have taken the chance but I did.
Take care.

There's nothing wrong with trying ... the instructions I provided don't make any changes to your existing program configurations, so the risk is minimal. The settings outlined affect ONLY the configuration of Outlook, not Outlook Express. Outlook and Outlook Express are two entirely different programs ... Just run Outlook Express instead of Outlook and it will work like it always did. It's that simple.
On the "test", you didn't try to test before you completed all the instructions did you? If so, that won't work. There are several settings in the instructions which need to be set first before that will work. You need to complete all the instructions first.
So, please describe what you mean by "really messed up" ... there's nothing in the instructions which would change anything about your present setup.
How do you send mail presently? Via webmail? If so, after you login to webmail, whats the address (Http line) say along the top?

If Outlook Express is already being used, Outlook 2003 can simply Import the settings from Outlook Express.
