Here is a complete guide to set up Verizon mail on your MacBook and IPhone 4
MacBook OSX 10.5.8 Mail 3.6 (936)
Open Mail
Go to Mail-Preferences...
Accounts Icon
Account Information tab
Account Type: POP
Description: Verizon (incoming)
Email address: [you@verizon.net]
Full Name: [whatever]
Incoming Mail Server: incoming.verizon.net
Password: [your password]
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): set up using Edit Server List settings as follows
Account Information tab
Description: Verizon (outgoing)
Server Name: outgoing.verizon.net
Advanced tab
Use custom port: 587
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) NOT CHECKED (will not work otherwise)
Authentication: Password
User Name: [you@verizon.net]
Password: [your password]
(click OK to select the new server)
Advanced tab
Enable this account: checked
Include... : checked
Remove copy... : checked
...
Port: 995 Use SSL CHECKED
Authentication: Password
IPhone 4 iOS 5.0 on AT&T
Go to Settings-Mail
Go to Mail under Accounts
POP Account information
Name: [whatever]
Address: [you@verizon.net]
Description: Verizon (incoming)
Host name: incoming.verizon.net
User name: [you@verizon.net]
Password: [your password]
SMTP outgoing.verizon.net
Host Name: outgoing.verizon.net
User name: [you@verizon.net]
Password: [your password]
Use SSL ON
Authentication: Password
Server Port 587
(now go all the way back to Verizon (incoming))
Advanced
Remove: after one week
Use SSL: ON
Authentication: (no entry)
Delete from server: Never
Server Port: 995
S/MIME: OFF
Description: Verizon (incoming)
Email address: [you@verizon.net]
Full Name: [whatever]
Incoming Mail Server: incoming.verizon.net
Password: [your password]
