Verizon.net "New Email Tool" (UI / app) and POP/SMTP

Hello, sorry if this seems like dumb question. Considering abandoning legacy email web UI for the new one.

BUT - my primary email client for me is Thunderbird; use web UI only occasionally. Would someone please confirm: use of "new email tool" app will have no effect whatsoever on POP/SMTP functionality and my Thunderbird email client?

Doesn't change a dang thing on the back end, just the front end. POP/SMTP settings stay the same, web UI looks different (I would say "better," since it's supposed to be, but that's highly subjective).
