I cannot use my Verizon.net email account in the Windows 8 E-mail app. They do not support POP3 accounts.

Are there any plans to enable access to my email as an IMAP account?

Probably not.  Lots of other apps including Microsoft's live mail will work on Windows 8 or 8.1
