changing email settings

Message 1 of 4 (856 Views)

I have received an email from Verizon telling me I need to change my email settings to the following in order for my email to contine working after September this year. I have changed them and now my email does not work. Is this a legitimate message? And do these settings work for anyone? I use Thunderbird on my laptop and I also have an iPad.

Server

Current Setting

New Setting

SSL Enabled

Port

POP3 Server

incoming.verizon.net

pop.verizon.net

YES

995

SMTP Server

outgoing.verizon.net

smtp.verizon.net

YES

Yes, the message is legitimate, and yes, you must eventually change server settings as described.  You may find this onerous, and you're not the first person to face this issue, but eventually it must be done.

This topic has really been beaten to death in the forums.  I'd say your best bet is to type "thunderbird" into the "Ask the Community" search box at the top of the page and start reading.  There's a vast amount of detail there.

My impression is that just about everyone eventually gets the settings right, after which the system works as desired.  Still it may take some doing.  Good luck.

Also, password authentication method must be set to normal for POP and SMTP.   You may not see those options if you don't enable SSL first.
