Seconds? Heck, it would only take NANOSECONDS to do this check. But Verizon cannot be bothered to actually perform a service for their paying customers!

Yes they are not doing a great job.
No, there really are people at spamdetector.notcaught. But there scheme of what gets added to the filter is not very good. Essentially they are looking for the big pattern and not blocking some fairly obvious things and not blocking by senders since that changes all the time.
And the spammers are way beyond reverse lookups helping to block spam. And unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) most email sites no longer will acknowledge if an email address is valid as this was a way spammers were using to detect valid emails. All you can detect is they have a MX record for the site.
