Yup -- I likewise have been a 20 year subscriber!!! and depend on the relay functionality -- when I called in I had to convince the tech support person that there was an issue on verizon's side and that it was a critical issue -- the customer service person told me that this should effect less that 1% of their customers so that was ok!!!  It is a CRITICAL ISSUE and should be resolved and/or there should be a rebate for our time wasted ... I have been looking at alternate services such as SMTP2Go to get around verizon!     There seemed to be NO interest in resolving the issue just a big pass the buck (Corporate made a decision so that is that was all I was told).

This is a show stopper not being able to send email with from addresses other than verizon.   Using an ISP's email as a from address would be a reason to not do business with someone!

Hi jack63ss,

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and scroll down the page to an area titled "My Support Cases." You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name located above your post, or at the top right of this page.

Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. The title of your post is the link. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, you may subscribe to the case. At the top right of your support case there is a gear icon which provides a drop down menu with support case options. Click that and choose "subscribe." Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

I was on the phone for perhaps 2 hours and in the end was told that this was a corporate decision and that folks like me are a minority of users and they were not able / interested in helping any further.  I was also told that there was no way to escalate this issue or let whoever makes decisions that this is a CRICTICAL issue.   You folks should have workarounds in place before removing support for email (this is OLD technology that is relied on and should not be treated lightly!)

I too, realized just today that this happened. I've been sending email using my own domains through verizon's SMTP relay for years.

However, as an IT person, I was surprised when they allowed this. I took advantage of it, but I was actually very surprised it worked.

I have both a business and a residential Internet connection, with a static IP for the business. So I can easily get around this, but I'd rather not. My hosting account with Godaddy will allow me to send directly to them, but I'd still rather use Verizon's smtp gateway.

No help from Verizon on this matter?

I too spent a couple hours on the phone with Verizon tech support who had no clue about what was going on "I was out yesterday" he said. Finally he got through to an email specialist who basically said I was screwed.

verizon, really, is that the best you can do?

change this policy today or I'm done, I've been a good customer for years, I need to be able to send email from my domain

Yup I have perhaps 20 email accounts that are active and the only way to handle this is to use an email client -- and the relay technology is what makes this practical.

I also have been doing this for MANY years.  If verizon had an issue with a specific user they could have handled it directly rather than breaking their email system.  I can not image anyone actually using a verizon email address.  We probably would not hire someone if their return address was verizon.net!

being done seems like to polite a way to say this is a major issue and having no workaround seems like a slap in the face

with email not being supported perhaps there should a be 25% discount on the cost of isp service since they are not supplying part of what an ISP is expected to support.
