i'm  seriously considering switching from hotmail to verizon web email. i would appreciate hearing from users about what they like and dislike about verizon web email. i will be using the web email directly. i will not use it through outlook, etc.

It should be fine if you are using it via the web. I don' t like it because it doesn't sync all your folders with Outlook or your phone so if you send an email say from your phone, you will only have record of it from your phone. Another thing to keep in mind is you don't lose your email with the free services. However, if you ever change from Verizon, you no longer have your email. I don't know how important that is to you.

Those who know will tell you DO NOT use any Webmail.

Use an email client to access email so you can get the FULL BENEFIT of processing email messages (sent and received).

I mostly just use web mail to check my spam folder and to access my mail when I am traveling. The thing I most dislike is that Verizon refuses to provide a secure (https) interface for login and web mail. I don't understand how Verizon is so oblivious to important security issues.

wdg_pgh:

I believe (and I may be wrong or have incomplete information) Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is used for account authentication and Single Sign On (SSO)  and then once authenticated the user is shifted to http ( no SSL).  So your password is encrypted but not your email.

i appreciate your taking the time to comment. i have always used a web-based email service and it has worked fine for me. i really don't want to bring the email down to my computer. i prefer to keep it out there on their server.

thanks for pointing out that verizon does not have an https log-on option. i think they should and will email them about that. it won't keep me from switching, though. what did keep me from switching when i first went to verizon fios was the lack of a calendar. i use the calendar a  lot as for reminders.

that's my understanding also--that you have a secure log-on, but not once you are in your email.
