My son has one ethernet connection in his room coming from the ActionTec router. He would like a second connection but I don't want to run a new line up to his room as it will be a big job. What alternatives do I have? He also has a high definiton stb in his room. What is the purpose of the ethernet port on the rear of the stb?
Thanks
Mel

The port is not active on the STB. As for a second port you can get just a network hub and put it back there. You don't need anything with dhcp or anything just a plain 100 base dumb network hub.
