.5 Mbps down but 25.60 Mbps up. Help!

I've had Fios Internet for 3 months and consistently have speeds of 30.45 Mbps down and 25 up but for the past 3 days it's been less than 1 Mbps down. I have rebooted pc and router to no avail. What could possibly be wrong.

No malware or viruses as well. I'm hardwired to the router.

Thanks all!

Make sure you are hardwired

Make sure you re-run the Verizon Optimizer

Make sure you are testing at http://speedtest.verizon.net

In rare cases you may have to adjust your NIC settings to be 100MB half duplex

If that doesn't work, then do a couple traceroutes, and let us see the results.

the traceroutes look ok with a couple time outs that may or may not mean anything.

The test doesn't look like it was done at the vz speedtest site.   so do a test there to isolate non-Verizon network conditions from your results, and yes it is a reliable test.

The test was run directly from that link.  I don't know how to post the screenshot of the page - but the results are:

Download = 0.562

Upload = 25.794

Optimizer has been run via the In Home Agent.

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks SO much!

Power the router off for a minute or two and then power it back on and see if that clears the issue.

try plugging into a different port.    so if you are plugged into number 1,   try 2, 3 and 4

Also try changing your nic to 100base T or 100mb half duplex.

You may just need the main box to be rebooted (ONT) or you may need a new router, if it isn't your PC.

To change your NIC to 100 half mode, you can go to start > control panel > network connections (might say network and internet)       you will either see your NIC devices, or you will see choose a control panel Icon.   if you see choose a control panel icon click on network connections again.

then you should see your NIC devices,   double click on your NIC (may say Local area connection 1 or 2)

then go to properties

and on properties you will have a configure button under general.  click that

then go to the advanced settings, and under property, look for link speed or duplex mode (you are going to have to hunt around here, because different manufacturers name it different things)    switch the setting to 100baseT or 100 mb half duplex (not full duplex)

hit ok, or save and keep hitting ok or save until you get all the way out, and then re-test.

If no difference, you can either call Verizon and they can reboot the outside box for you, or you can do it manually by finding the battery back up unit VZ installed for you.   it will be a cream colored box and have two blue buttons and four lights (only one light should be on)

step 1 unplug it from the wall

step 2 open the battery compartment, and disconnect the battery

step 3 let sit 2 minutes

step 4 plug the wall adapter in first.

step 5 plug the battery back in and close the compartment.

go back and test again.

Thank you so much Hub!

Ok, very intersting - the first (and only) thing I have done was change the duplex as you said and magically, everything is fix.  Please see below the detailed report from the Verizon Speed Test Site you linked previously:

So what the heck happened all of a sudden?  All was fine using the "auto negotiation" setting for 3 months and now it started to not work.  Should this be the final fix and I'm done or should I still do something else?  Speeds are back to perfect for now...

Thank you again!!
