Adding another Verizon router....

I currently have FIOS installed at my home.  I have my wireless router installed on the main level in my home.  The wireless signal is great on the main level and upstairs, but the signal in the basement varies from good to low.  I am looking for a solution that will allow for either better signal strength or adding another router in the basement that connects to my existing FIOS line.  This would also require adding a phone line in the basement as well...unfortunately the previous owner of my home did not have lines put in the basement.

At any rate, can someone assist with this solution.  Thanks in advance

Verizon will not supply a second router....

There is no need for a phone line in your basement, unless you just want a phone down there... FiOS internet does not use the phone line....

Your options are :

A) run ethernet cord to the basement

B) install some sort of signal booster/repeater/secondary wireless access point/other type of wireless networking device, to meet your internal networking needs.

Won't a repeater cut the signal bandwith in half?  I know its supposed to repeat the signal, but I heard you lose bandwith

you don't lose signal if you add another device with an ethernet wire.  Best idea would be to use another router and set the 2nd router to 10.10.1.1 so that there will be no issues with the network you already have.

If running an Ethernet aconenction from the Current Router to the Baement is not an option you can get another FIOS Router and connect it to the COAX Cabling in your house.  It has to be configured properly and information can be found here:

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking#15984

Keep the SSID the same and put the 2nd router on a diffent channel from the 1st.

According to Bob, Verizon will not provide another router...which is what I initially would like done.  Have another FIOS line run into the basement so that I could add another router.

Verizon will be more than happy to sell you a 2nd Router.

Or you could look for one from another source.

It's true, Verizon will not provide one... but you can find them out there.... E-bay, craigslist, perhaps even actiontec directly

The verizon provided router is very difficult to edit the network settings, the best idea would be to get another router from somewhere like best buy where you can tell someone what you are looking for and they can advise you of what might work best.

While the FIOS Router is more complex than a Linksys or Other brand router that you would get from Best Buy is is not that difficult to configure.  Just folow the steps in the FAQ.
