All downloads are corrupt

Hello,

For about the last week or so, any file that I download, especially zip files cannot be opened because they are corrupt. Also, when I try to do an upgrade of a game on Steam, it won't upgrade because it says the files are corrupt. Is it a problem with the router or settings? I've done a Google search but have not been able to resolve the problem.

Thanks for your reply. I've tried it on my laptop and on my wife's desktop and the same problem exists.

That's a pretty weird problem.  I find myself wondering if all 3 of the PC's you've tried are infected with some malware, or have some other problem common to all of them.

As troubleshooting steps....

If you send a file, maybe a .zip, from one PC on your LAN to another can you open the file on the receiving machine?

Can you connect you laptop to the Internet somewhere besides your FiOS network to see if the problem still happens?

I've seen these kinds of issues happen if a file is getting damaged by a bum network switch or NIC. Since this is multiple machines it's unlikely to be a NIC. It's possible the router could be on the way out, could be something else too. I'd ask Verizon for a replacement router saying the Ethernet ports are misbehaving, and see if that resolves the problem.

A quicker solution may be to try rebooting the ONT. To do this just unplug the ONT from AC power, and then disconnect the battery. Re-connect in the reverse o rder.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking it might be the router. I've tried rebooting the ONT with no success.
