Chat support failed, but it isn't to blame.

Further to chat {edited for privacy}, the overseas technician was unable to determine why I was able to connect wirelessly to the new FiOS router but could not connect via Ethernet (DHCP). It turned out the problem, solved by another U. S.-based technician, had a simple solution. The Lenovo Thinkpad X230 has two RJ45 sockets, one on the computer and another on the Ultrabase. If the computer is connected to the Ultrabase, the router must be connected to the Ultrabase RJ45 socket to use Ethernet. Unfortunately the Lenovo technician, who I contacted before I contacted Verizon's overseas technician, did not solve the problem first.
