Connecting a new iMac thru the FIOS wireless router

There seems to be no info on the VZ site specifically about wireless connection for an iMac.  I'm thinking of getting one and am wondering what's involved in getting it connected.

From various posting I've seen in the forum, some folks are having problems but I cannot tell if this reflects 100%, 10%, 1% or .01% of mac users.

Is there a Macs & FIOS tutorial around?

Thanks.

The only issue that I know of between Mac and Verizon on wireless connections is an issue with WEP security. For some reason some mac's have problems with WEP, The solution is to change the Verizon router from WEP to WPA security and then the apples should have no more issues. (note: should)

Now Verizons router is not known for being very strong when it comes to wireless so what a lot of people do is to add another router to the mix (if you are getting a Mac, you may want an airport router). Just daisy chain the second wireless to the Verizon router and no more worries.

After you power up the router, the iMac's Airport (top right of your screen) should see its identity (ESSID) as an available network in the vicinity, as well as any others that might in range.  Click on your router's designation and fill out the required information (WEP key), and it should connect.  The relevant info is printed on the router.  Write it down for save keeping.  You can access the router's software setups, if you want, by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar (without http:// ), but I believe you have to be hardwired to the router to sign in there (be directly connected at the ethernet port to a live network jack).

and, of course, allways remember that MACS use lower case letters in the security key, opposed to Windows, which uses capitals.   And no capital O, only zeros  Smiley Happy
