email from outside server-non verizon address

I m trying to connect to my work server and be able to send mail from that address. I can recieve but cant send. I have tried the 587 SMTP but that didnt do anything. Instead of using outgoing.verizon.net I want to use the company server address. Any ideas?

The general answer is a residential verizon customer can only send mail via SMTP throuhg a Verizon SMTP server. Verizon Blocks off network port 25 access for residential customers, so you can never establish a connection to an off network SMTP server.

I have a Residential Account and am using a Non Verizon SMTP Server to send and receive my email using Ports 110 and 25, with no

issues.

When configuring your Outgoing Server in your Mail Client you may need to tell the software to use Authentication and  to use the same settings as your incoming mail server.  This is the same way that my mail client (Outlook) worked when I was with Comcast.

BrianMcD thanks for the info. When I tried to use port 25 and the same recieving and sending address it kept asking for network password. What exactly are you using as settings and where are you setting up the Authentication tab.

I have always used the check box to tell Outlook to use the same sign on credentials as my incoming mail server.

The POP3 and SMTP Server Names may be different and they may not be the same as your Companies Internal Server Names.  What to use here will need to be provided by your IT Department.

What email client software are you using at home and what type of email due you use at work ?

Good info. Also check and see if your work IT department will alow connections for SMTP on ports other then 25. You can then tell your mail client to use that port. There have been a number of posts regarding SMTP being blocked outbound except for outgoing.verizon.net. Alternate ports for outgoing mail should work if your work supports it.
