Explorer can't run JAVA... Outlook Express crippled

I made a mistake the evening of my FIOS install - I trusted the "automatic" set up offered through the assistant.  The only reason I did that was because the Verizon servers rejected my username and password....

I need to roll back all my TCP/IP and Outlook settings to the moment prior to the automatic set up....  I manually set up Outlook on a different PC in the home without any side effects or degradation in performance - Verizon's "optimize for FIOS" doesn't work for me - broke two critical apps....

Please advise how to roll back / undo....

Thank you.

System restore to the restore point that was taken just before the install.

Accessories, system tools, system restore.

There is nothing the "assistant" installs that you need.  In fact there really is nothing to be installed on your machine to use a fios connection.  It is advisable to run the optimizer otherwise you may not realize the full speed of your connection.  Doubtful that the optimizer would break any apps as I believe all it does is adjust the mtu parameters on the connection.
