FIOS Installation

Verizon will install Fios to my neighbour and they will need to dig in my yard to do this. The lawn has been marked up  with paint and flags to be excavated or tunneled to install fiber, but we received no notice that they were planning to do so until they started marking the property. We had to question the person doing the marking to find out what he was doing. We have seen the utilities marks and we don't know how they will do this with out damaging our irrigation system.

We don't understand why Verizon needs to go through our yard when there is another box closer to the neighbor's yard. We also are very concerned about the possibility of the contractor damaging our sprinker system.  We have marked the heads, but it is impossible to know where the piping system is. What precautions does Verizon take to ensure the irrigation system is not damaged?  How does Verizon determine which box to use?

Thank you for your consideration,

Welcome to the forums.  You're talking to other customers here.  If you want to reach Verizon, you should call or chat with them.

Most properties have a utility easement as part of the deed.  This easement is a small area around an edge or edges of the property that utility companies can use to run lines without permission, as permission is permanently granted by the easement.  The deed and plat of survey should describe any easements on a property.

If you've installed underground facilities within an easement, then you should mark them to alert the utility of their location.

If you think the potential utility work is not within the easement, then the utility should be working with you to gain access.

You may want to obtain professional advise if you think the work is outside of an easement.

Good Luck.
