Is there a way to connect a stereo receiver to my fios router when the stereo is located far away (other than using a long cord)?

You haven't defined "far away". 100 feet? 1000 feet?
Do you have a coax connection whewre the stereo receiver is?
Here are the most common connection methods
1) cat5
2) coax with MOCA adapter
3) Powerline networking
4) Wireless
You haven't given enough information to give a specific recommendation.

Here is some more information. Not sure how many feet exactly but the receiver is in the basement three floors down from the router. The receiver has a coaxial port in the back for internet connections. It is not possible to have a hard connection directly between the two.

What i was asking was if you had a coax connection for a TV or STB nearby.
If so, you can use a MOCA LAN adapter.
