FIOS Static IP 150 Down 65 MB Up is is more like 15 Down over 8 MB UP between 8pm through 5am

First I would like to say is I have been a verizon fios business customer for 9 years.... It was all good until that side deal took affect when verizon became a share holder of the video streaming service....What I have been noticing is the core backbone routers of NEWYORK1.LEVEL3.NET is suddendly becomes to a CRAWLING HALT between the hours of 7:30PM EST to around 5AM EST. Its like clock work never fails. I also have friends who have access to cogents core routers from another ISP and was informed that VERIZON does certin UNDISCLOSED BUSINESS practices to SLOW DOWN THE BACKBONE of the last hops to the internet so that they take their VIDEO STREAMING competition to a CRAWLING HALT. Now that I got that out of the way maybe this would get someones attention and can get "Verizon Fios IP NOC (ip-noc@verizon.com)" to respond to my emails. I have also just written a first class letter to

Verizon Communications Inc

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

140 West Street, 6th Floor
New York, New York 10007

So my problem is, Verizon will NEVER ADMIT to doing anything to the backbone that would cause everyones to have such slow internet and hight "ms" tracerouts at night...... even knowing that we all know verizon is a major shareholder

of a video streaming service that isnt much talked about in public.

I went and spend the money and got upgraded to the new G-PON network 150 over 65MB. It does pretty well during the daytime only... but like clock work it never fails starting around 7:30pm to 5am..... slowless on the NEWYORK1.LEVEL3.NET backbone that Verizon uses to PEER with the other ISPS.

My argument is that I have done tests with other ISPs during these hours and I dont see the issue with them, only verizon!

I provide Disaster Recovery Citrix Terminal Server access to a few big key companies....

Been getting complaints about Slowness and first taught is way my systems until I did a "TRACERT" from my server

to my client and discovered MS Traffic Delays betweek 140-280!!!!! all only on the newyork1.level3.net.

So I called up my clients ISP and told them what gives. The first thing I was told is "Why is verison PEERING you to LEVEL3.NET when they can just add a PEERING HELPER and push you through COGENT.  I said ohhh really?

just like that it can be solved? and I was told yes with a warning, "verizon wont do it because they are in a video streaming battle and want to degrade the internet speed against its competiors" Ohhh really?? huh.

Ok so my client ownes 13 block subnet and my company using FIOS ownes a 13 block subnet.

My client Tower Stream tracert to my verizon fios looks like this.

Notice the very little hops and the ms speed from TOWER STREAM (COGENT backbone) to VERIZON FIOS (me)

Trace route to aacore1.services.erouterzone.net [74.101.52.178]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

  7     *        *        *     Request timed out.

  8    52 ms    51 ms    50 ms  74.101.52.178

My tracert verizon fios to my client using tower stream looks like this.

Notice the 13 HOPS when its clear it can be completed in just 8!!

Notice the VERIZON Network is all nice and FAST 1-5ms delays

Notice how VERIZON is forcing LEVEL3.NET backbone on its customers!!! when other ISPs dont.

Notice how SLOW and Sloppy LEVEL3.NET is ranging from196ms to 212ms THUS MAKING YOUR FIOS slow!!

Notice how if you took LEVEL3.NET out of the picture that your internet speed would be FLYING!!

Trace complete.

So in closing I came to a conslusion that unless this gets someones direct attention at verizon they will do nothing to fix this due to their stake of being a share holder in the video streaming world... playing games by slowing down

the late afternoon, night early am backbone access to the internet.

Its also known that Verizon and Cogent dont play nice as PEERING but its also known that from my clients traceroute to verizon fios is no match to my traceroute to my clients.

When opening a Noc Ticket early this year I got the email that I should have saved stating that Verizon doesnt add PEERING Helpers to its customers. So by that decision its people like us that now suffer.

Verizon LEVEL3.NET isnt the BEST POSSIBLE PEERING ROUTE and maybe if you did add PEERING Helpers to the core switches then maybe your network would know what it feels like to actually be FAST.

Would love to hear you explain how TOWER STREAM using a COGENT backbone can reach VERIZON FIOS in just 8 HOPS FAST but VERIZON takes 13 SLOW Hops to return the same data back!!!

Strange huh, so I do hope I now disclosed and helped everyone understand why the Verizon Fios Internet seems slow crawing speeds afterhours and maybe just maybe someone at Verizon will see this and fix it to shut me up.

So I got word from someone at NOC,,,,

They know about the issue but cant assist.

It seems that Verizon Fios doesnt appear to even own up to its SLA and calling them us like ordering pizza,,,..

useless.

Lightpath seems to own up to its sla and for those that need the speed 24.7 its not that expensive.

Goodbye Fios.

Maybe next time you should have more then one TIER 1 provider to the internet..

Quit using level3 and allow others into the mix.

You know if its at the end about $$ Why not charge Business Customers

extra money to not use their own Tier1 Provider (ALTER.NET/LEVEL3.NET) and

PEER us with a backbone provider of our choice!??

My company would be willing to pay the extra costs if thats what it took to not use Level3.net.

Find it so strange that Fios isnt a service that offer extras.

My customers are in New York and for them to reach me they have to travel to the slow network of Level3.net

in VA then back up to nyc!!!

When between me and my customer we have Cogent in common.

So why not charge me more just so I can provide service to my customers....

$$$ is here just take it and give me what I want in return.

Never taught adding a PEER Helper to my subnet on the ASA Routers would be such a big deal!
