Intermittent High Latency throughout the day - Horrible latency between 5pm and 10pm

Hello,

I've been a FIOS customer for the better part of 1 month and have been struggling to get this issue fixed.

I get the advertised speed of 150mbps late at night and throughout the morning, but any other time of day meets with inconsistant to slow speeds.  And when I say slow I mean SLOW....

From 5pm to about 7pm I'm lucky if I can get 200 KB/s - double the fastest little bit slower and I'd be in Dial Up Land 😄

After 7 the speed isn't quite as abysmal but it will not return to 150mbps until about 9 to 10pm.

Now, I'm sure these are high use times - but I thought the advantage of having fiber was that there's a HUGE pipe so things like this won't happen?  Am I missing something?

Any time I've tried to contact a tech I've had to sit through the rigamarole of having them restart the router, then run a speed test, then e-mail me a list of things I can do on my own.  Kinda tired of going through it - hoping I can get some better help here.

This is what a typical ping test will net me on a wired connection directly to the FIOS router anytime after 5pm and before 7 or so.

josh@Luna:~$ ping www.yahoo.com
PING ds-any-fp3-real.wa1.b.yahoo.com (72.30.38.140) 56(84) bytes of data.

And later in the evening I get:

Are you wired or wireless.

What you should do is run two traceroutes

One when it is bad

and one when it is good

post those results here.

How do I run a traceroute?

Also run two speed tests

one when it is good

and one when it is bad.

Use http://speedtest.verizon.net and post the results by clicking the little detailed link.
