Internet speed discrepancy

I just recently upgraded from 5/2 to 20/5 FiOS internet and did a speed test to check and see if I was actually getting 20/5 and realized I was not.  The upload is fine and will usually be up around 4800-4900kbps on speedtest.net but the download speed seems to max at around 10mbps.  I'm using a wired PC and a wireless macbook and they both max around the same, usually only getting up around 8500-9000kbps.  I've read through some other posts and noticed that people are suggesting turning off UPnP but I'm not a tech person so I'm not sure how to do this.  Can someone please give me some advise on this and let me know where I can find the information to actually go and make these changes.

Thanks

#1 What is the brand and model of your router?

#2 The max download speed of 10 mbps, is happening on the wired computer?

#3 If so to number 2 above, what is the OS and version of your computer (For example: Windows XP)?

Try Verizon's speed test. Some sites like the one you have used are limited bandwidth and may max out if they are having alot of traffic. There are also other speed test sites that have gigabit pipes and may be better. Try these.

There are also links from these pages to other sites.

Sites that can tune your TCP

Verizon has a TCP Optimizer link but it never seems to work. But I am running Vista 64bit.

It could be your router, or ethernet connection if you have only a 10 meg connection on your PC. I have seen that on some older computers, or routers.

The first thing I would do is optimize your computers for the higher bandwidth.  Verizon has their own optimizer for windows based systems.  There are 2 ways to get to it.

Go to  https://activatemyfios.verizon.net

Select: Configure additional PC or reinstall software...enter in your username and password....you will get to a  page that will give you an option to install msn, yahoo, or aol....select i'll decide later.  Now to the important page: select "Custom install" and check mark "Verizon's optimizer" only...complete the installation and it will ask you to restart.

Next you can go to Verizons site, log in and search for Verizon's optimizer.

Now for the Apple Computer.  Apple has come out with it's own program to improve the performance of FiOS-based high-speed Internet connections.

Testing sites:  Personally i like http://www.speedtest.net  However I've heard that most sites can't handle the higher uploads, including Verizons own site.  For a consistant speed test  got to:
