that what I'm thinking as well.  I'm unsure where such a setting is located within the router settings, if one exists at all.

I reinstalled IRC and tried an entirely different client, but this is still happening.

My guess is there's some setting int he actiontec router that kills a connection if it's been idle for X amount of time.

Is anyone aware of such a setting and how I can adjust it and/or turn off that option?

I'm not the most familiar with the ActionTec routers and their associated firmware settings, but this almost seems to be an issue that could be caused by packet loss, or the NAT table being flushed of connections that are "Stale." If others in the IRC channels are seeing "Connection Reset" messages originating from your nick, it could very well be a problem with a NAT table flush or firewall on the computer. Clients are rarely the issue if they're configured correctly.

I believe it's a router issue as I did not have this issue before switching to verizon fios.
